2006 RX 400h thermostat replacement
Last summer I had the radiator replaced in my 06 400h. I had the mechanic put in a 170 degree thermostat. Ever since then I get the check engine light coming on. The reason is that the engine is now running below normal operating temp. The guy at the auto parts store who plugged his reader into the computer and got the code told me not to worry about it. Also the heat does not work as well as it should. Especially this morning when I woke up to 15 degrees outside. It also never really gets hot enough to truly blow hot air from the heater. I thought I was doing myself a favor in having the car run cooler bit ( I did this in summer when it was nearly 100 degrees outside) I was mistaken. I've also seen my gas mileage take a nose dive by 3-4 MPG.
I've searched for videos or pics of DYI to replace the thermostat myself but have been unsuccessful. I know on my old cars it was very simple a it was just under a cap. From the sparse info I was able to find it seems that I have to take two hoses apart somewhere in the car. Does anyone know of any better instructions on how to replace the thermostat on this car? Thanks.

The thermostat in your vehicle is located under the air filter. So if you Pop the hood you are going to be working on the driver or your right side, if you are facing the vehicle.
To make the job alot easier first you need to remove the air filter housing. Follow the bottom radiator hose to the back of the engine.
I have some pics of when I replaced mine and trying to post step by step but I have been very busy at work.
It is not that hard to do, just a little tedious because of the stuff you have to get out of the way to get to the thermostat.
