Default Engine Light, VSC and Traction Lights

I just had these three lights go on and took my car into a dealership. Apparently this is a known problem and has to do with timing gears. For cars with less than 70,000 miles, the repair is covered under the drive train warranty. And I just slipped in with mileage of 69, 952. Otherwise the cost would be around $2,100.

This is obviously a very common problem and glad Lexus is taking care of it under warranty. But it doesn't seem right that there should be a mileage limit. If I had 80K on the car I would have had a fit!

Unfortunately I don't know what causes the problem or if there is anything that can be checked as a warning that it is going to happen. Taking the car in today for the service and I'll see what I can find out.

I just learned that the code is P0015 and that the only thing I might see is the car running a bit sluggish.

2009

Left the car at the dealership and turns out I am 2 mos over the time limit. So service rep had to get OK from Lexus to fix under warranty. A day and a half later, he did not hear anything about my car ... nor others. Apparently the person who can OK this at Lexus is MIA.

Anyway, picked up my car and lights are off. Told that if they come on again, car is still safe to drive ... just will be sluggish and mileage will be worse.

Friend of mine told me that the variable valve timing is very sensitive to the engine oil. He suggested that I plan on having the oil and filter a bit more frequently to make sure I've got good oil going through the system all the time. Going to try that

When that happens on my 04 it's the brake light switch.

Meaning that the switch fails and causes those lights to go on? How many times has this happened?

Yes. 3x since 04. If you search on here you'll see posts about it. It's not unusual.

Yes, however, it always seems that the brake light is always in the mix and not the check engine light.

It will. Definitely the brake light switch, above the brake pedal.

When this happens, are my brake lights not working? I had a chevy truck that I had to replace the brake light switch 3 times on. It was a major pita to access. Is this one pretty simple?

Some have reported yes, and some no. It is a royal pita to get to. I'll never, ever do it again.
