Default The same old tire questions 2008 RX

Just spoke to Tire Rack and Discount tire . I was set on the Bridgestone HL 422 Ecpoia but they told me to look at the Cont. Eco plus Tech all season and the Yoko 580 . they all cost about the same with the 580 about 40 total cheaper. I live in Kansas and would like the nice quite ride NO NOISE if possible. I have an 2008 RXh with 18s AWD around 70k. Have latitude tour with 4/32 now and bough the car used so its hard to tell what they would have been like new PLUs they cost a lot more . would like it to pretty good in the rain and snow.

Thanks ,
Chris

I am extremely happy with the Michelin Premiers I put on about 1,000 miles ago. Just had a week of snow and ice and they were rock solid. They have always been really quiet and very grippy. No change in MPG, I do a lot of highway driving and still get 23 all around.

Your current Latitude Tours are very quiet. Even at 50k miles mine are still quiet. That seems to be the difference. They stay quiet as they age and also wear evenly. Those tires are not the same as the OEM Michelin Energy S8. The previous owner selected them for a reason. BTW Amazon has Tours for $198 each with free shipping. I am getting ready to order a set.

The Conti purecontacts weigh 24 lbs. The Bridgestone 422s weigh 27 lbs. The RX should feel more powerful and would get slightly better fuel economy with lighter tires. Both are LRR so they should be quiet. My vote is for the Conti's. I have 422s on my RX330 I got used. Conti's are my next choice of tires.

The Michelin Premier starts at a lower tread depth but has a tread design that is unlike any other tire on the market. The radical design makes up for the tread depth.

While the Continental Cross Contact LX20 with Eco Plus is an exceptional tire, there are a LOT of people on this forum who rave over the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia on the RX

+1 for Bridgestone H/L 422 Ecpoia

I had a pair on another SUV and I liked them ........ a lot. So much so, that when the current Michelin Defender's are ready to go, I will replace them with another set of Bridgestone H/L 422 Ecpoia .

Quiet on the highway and I had no problems with Cleveland snow. Whereas all of our sedans get dedicated snow tires.

Ignore my Amazon comment. Tire Rack had a better price once you factor in no sales tax and a $75 gift card. Just bought 4 yesterday. Also, I think I got free road hazard.

I like the idea of the Michelin Premiers. I just wish there was more real world experience. I just don't want a tire that gets noisy in the 2nd half of its life. It ruins the already noisy RX.

The dealer i bought my RX from put Yoko Avids on all four and i haven't had that many problems. Slight shake at 80mph but so could be from anything.

I would suggest Michelin and Pirelli over the other brands. Not all tires are made alike.

If you have a slight shake at 80mph, it is most probably due to imperfect balancing. That is the speed at which it shows up most in the RX (18" wheels).
