Default interior lights dont turn off

The dome lights on my 2008 RX400H wont turn off when doors are closed. Door ajar light goes out but dome lights stay on. Anyone else has this issue?

The dome light switch, I believe, has three positions. One is for always 'off', second is for 'on' when door is open and 'off' when door is closed, and the third is always 'on'. Check its position....

I did check the switch position and all set to "door" . I have turned the switch to off so that the battery doesn't run down but the door sills stay illuminated. I suspected a faulty door jam switch but why would the door ajar light go out and not the dome lights when the door is closed. Maybe something wrong in the dimming programming.

Very strange. Let us know what Lexus/Toyota say.... Good luck!

You are waiting the 30 seconds for them to turn off, right?

When you are sitting in the car with doors closed and car running does your dash cluster show any doors are open?

Here is some detail on this- I put in some notes that should help move forward with the diagnostic.

Hopefully an easy fix.
PS- this is for overhead light- if overhead light goes off properly when set to "door/auto" it can suggest the body ecu is working properly.
Also, if the "dome light" you are referring to is the light on the ceiling over the back seats that is a different wiring detail.

For anyone going thru this there is quite a bit to the interior wiring.

The problem is the Body ECU manipulates the ground wire for the interior lighting circuits. Many of the lamp's ground wires are spliced into the same common ground wire so if there is a short to frame ground in any in the ground wires in any of the lamps in question it will bypass the body ECU and keep all lights lit in the circuit.

How I would start:
Step 1: Confirm Body ECU recognizes all doors closed by info in dash cluster.
Step 2: Verify front overhead light and/or rear overhead light turn off/on properly when door closed/opened and if not see if position switch isn't shorted by manually turning lights on/off thus confirming a failed switch isn't completing the ground for all other lights in the circuit.
Step 3: List all lights that are failing to turn off,
Step 4: Attempt to figure out which component/wire/junction is shorting to frame ground and keeping all lights lit in affected circuit.

Hopefully this can be done without tearing out the interior chasing wires but would be helpful to know if any of the interior lights are turning off properly when doors are closed and narrow it down. Bad Body ECU with interior light circuit failure is another possibilty I should add.
