RX incompatible with Chamberlain Garage
The newest Chamberlain garage door is not controlable directly with my 2007 RX. I needed a device from Homelink to translate the Homelink codes from my car. Is there any way of updating the hardware in my car to work directly with my new garage door opener?

I doubt it. If there was some sort of update, it would be through Homelink and not through Lexus. Also it would require removing the overhead console since the Homelink transmitter only receives power from the car and is not connected to any of the car's communication systems.

IMO, this issue lies clearly with Chamberlain for not addressing backward compatibility for the majority of existing Homelink equipped vehicles. They chose to make this change and to not inform anyone, their dealers included, that older Homelink equipped vehicles will not work.
If your opener was just installed by a dealer, I'd make them come back and make it work or replace it. The packaging says it is "Homelink compatible" (period, no disclaimers). If this was a recent DIY project, I'd return it as a defective product if Chamberlain failed to provide a free repeater.
Homelink v4.0 in some newer cars apparently works with the changes Chamberlain made to their openers but there is no retrofit for the Homelink in older vehicles. Chamberlain has a repeater that may work with some older Homelink vehicles. They, however, want you to pay for this repeater, to make their garage door backward compatible with your older vehicles.
I think Chamberlain needs some new management. This is no way to treat your customers and your dealers. When designing these units, you would expect any engineer worth his salt would have considered backward compatibility. I suspect the bean-counters at Chamberlain chose to eliminate backward compatibility due to cost.

I am not really upset with Chamberlain. It sounds like the new system has better security. Also I did know what I was getting into before buying. Homelink only charged me $7 for the device that converts my car signal to the garage opener. My issue is that I would prefer to update the hardware in my car instead of this work-around.
