Default Lighted Rear Door Scuff plate Out

My 2008 Rx 400h has nice blue"neon" lighted scuff plates. One of my rear plates is out . The dealer tells me that the whole scuff plate unit must be replaced and that it it simply not a matter of replacing a light. There is a lighted strip that apparently is the light source. Has anyone replaced the lights without replacing the whole sill of the door? Thanks.

The dealer is right.....kinda.....The light can be replaced but only if you are technically inclined. It involves a lot of cutting and gluing and soldering. It would also probably be hard to match the blue. If I were you I would just get the whole new scuff plate. A new one costs about $100.00 and is pretty easy to install yourself.

its just a light bulb. be careful and take it apart.

get to the bulb and order one off ebay or somewhere else. save the hundred bucks.

if it doesnt match exactly, it shouldnt be a problem. you prob wont notice. or you could change all 4.

OK two different views. 100 bucks isn't bad, I thought it would be more. It's nice to have that neon blue light up. If it is just a light I'll go for that. I'll start by taking it off. Thanks for the info.

Well it isn't a light bulb. It's an LED. And the chance that the LED is bad is very VERY slim...When an LED stops working is almost always the circuit board. Regardless of which route you decide to take, you might as well take it apart and try to fix it yourself. Worse case, you break it trying to take it apart and you have to buy a new one anyway.

This advise is the way to go! If you are patient, you are going to be OK.

So if it's the circuit board...where is that positioned?

The LED is soldered directly on the board.
