Default Advice - Planning to buy used RX 2006-2008

I am searching for used 2006-2008 RX with low mileage. Can folks let me know what I should look out for while buying a used RX? any common problems or issues? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had looked into the service history of the vehicle that I am interested (2007 RX 350) and it seems the Lexus tech had recommended power steering rack repair. I think it is an expensive repair (~1800). Should I walk away from this vehicle?

Headlight condensation- should be fixed under dealer through extended warranty

Power steering rack is a known problem. YOu can buy the part yourself from NAPA and have someone instal it cheaper

Thanks LeUsX and TriniLex.

How can I find out if the vehicle has "Headlight condensation" issues? I apologize if it is stupid question but I assume the condensation will be visible after rain.

Also, I have been told about transmission and struts issues with RX. Is it very common? Thanks

Our 2007 had the steering rack replaced and the ignition lock replaced (occasionally key wouldn't turn). We haven't had the headlight condensation problem.

As for the one you found that needs a steering rack, don't walk away, negotiate the repair into the purchase. Otherwise if you buy a different RX you will likely have to get its rack replaced down the road out of your own pocket.

There were transmission issues with '99 and '00 RX300 (1st gen) but nothing like that with the 330 or 350. Struts seem to need attention at 120-150k.

Thanks Carver and NVAKeith.

I have the option of buying a 2007 (~$20K) or 2010 model 9~26K). Both have similar mileage (~45K) and are similarly equipped. Can folks let me know which one will be better (price and value)?
Thanks

I don't like the interior asymetrical dash design of the 2010s and above, but I would love the push button start feature. Never have to take your keys out of your pocket or purse, then it locks when you walk away.

If the 07 has no machanical issue, I will take the 07 and save the $6K+tax. Although I like the 10 exterior style, the ride is a little more firmer than the 07. I know since one of my co-worker has a 2010 model. MPG wise, they are both similar, although the 10 has a 6-speed tranny.

We were in the similar situation last year and I decided to buy the 08 and save the $6-7K difference compares to the 2010 model. And the wife could not tell the difference between the 07 and 10, she just knows the 07 rides softer, which is what she wants.

08 RX350 AWD (wife)
08 Avalon Touring (mine)

Thanks lexsc4 and Henry2024. I am seriously considering the 2007. It has got transmission issues but the owner has agreed to pay for the repair/reduce the price by ~1.5K. It has got headlight condensation but I think it is covered (http://www.lexusreimbursement.com).
