RX330 2004 HID Burn Out (Driver Side)
One of my HID just burn out, it goes on for a split second then goes out. I was able to take out the bulb but it seems a little difficult to put it back because I am lacking visual since the space is so tight. The thread below shows pictures... I know it's for GS but I think it's the same for RX?
Also does anyone a good place to buy a replacement? D2S bulb... thanks

jimjaix, this is something that has been discussed many times on this forum, but here a couple threads that should help guide you some. At 10 years old, it is no surprise that one of the bulbs has gone out. I strongly recommend replacing both bulbs at the same time. However, as Rainbird said, it may be defective ballast, and not actually the bulb. To test your ballast, swap bulbs from side to side (move your passenger side bulb to your driver's side and your driver's side bulb to the passenger side). After doing this, if it is indeed a bad bulb, the driver's side should turn on normally, but the passenger side will turn on and go out (like you were describing above). If the problem still remains on the driver's side, then the ballast is bad.
However, with the car being 10 years old (pending original bulb), I would suspect the bulb before the ballast, but it does not hurt to double check before you start spending money on it. It is actually recommended to replace HID bulbs at about 5-7 years. The original bulbs that were used in the 2004 RX are Phillips 85122+ D2S bulbs (which are still the benchmark for D2S bulbs today). If you find that you need to replace your HID bulbs, then there are a few options out there (see links). Genuine Phillips 85122+ bulbs are not cheap, and are about $100 per pair. That being said, I would NOT go aftermarket (anything other than Phillips or Osram) for a D2S bulb, but to each their own I suppose. Personally, I replaced my bulbs with Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs, and I am really happy with them. In my opinion, they are well worth the extra money.

As far as getting the bulb back into the socket, if you look very carefully at a D2S bulb, you will see that the base is actually notched. If my memory serves me right, that notch needs to be upwards. If you use a mirror (I know space is tight), you can see where that notch is supposed to line up with. That should help you get the bulb in. Like I've said before, I will write up a DIY if enough people ask me to. Good luck and keep us posted. If you want more info on HIDs specifically, feel free to post or PM me with questions.

im glad this topic came up. does the little green pattern on the dash that comes on with the headlights blink or anything to let you know you have a burned out headlight?

lexus114, I haven't had a low beam bulb go out on me in the RX, but I would be very, very surprised if the car showed anything to let you know that you had a headlight out. I would think you would notice pretty quick if you had a headlight out at night.
