Default K&N Air Filter - Yea or Nay?

What are the pros and cons of this filter.
I had one in my 06 RX330 and took it
out - gas mileage was lousy - put a
new stock filter in just a few hours ago
so I don't know if the mileage is going to
get better or not until I drive it for awhile.
Thanks

If it lets more air in, by default it has to let more dirt in too.

When i worked at Acura, there was a service bulletin advising against the use of those filters.

If you dont clean and oil them regularly, then its a waste.

i use OEM / NAPA filters. 15-20 bucks

I have a K&N in my 04 RX330. No gas mileage gains or drops compared to OEM filters. I clean it as needed and inspect it regularly (every 5k miles). The benefit is that you aren't paying for new filters every time it is dirty. $15 adds up over the years. If you are planning on keeping the vehicle for several years, I would use a K&N. If you are not planning on keeping the vehicle long term, then I would just use OEM filters.

More noise and no MPG gain.Minimal power gain at and after 5K RPM.

Actually a K&N cleans better dirty.

The is absolutely insane, how is that possible? if that was the case, they would come dirty and tell you not to clean them.

as they get dirty, they block the holes, letting less and less air through, defeating the purpose of them.

if you have an actual arguement for them, i would be happy to hear one.

otherwise, they are not for daily drivers.

A bit dirty K&N makes smaller air openings which makes for better filtering for a period of time and not forever.

I use a K&N in both my wife's RX and my GX. No issues. A small gain in fuel mileage but other than that no issues. Service at dealership says all sensors are fine. They have no issues with it.

I do check it regularly. We live in middle of US so not dusty here and need to clean is about every year and half or so.

My 2¢
