Default slow responding external temp sensor

Hi all

on my 07 RX 350, I've noticed that the external temp sensor reacts very slowly for a few days after I wash the car.

I can understand it reacting strangely, say for a few hours after washing if the water gets on it. But not 3 days later! Not only was it extremely slow to react, it was also reading 4 C less than actual temp (as measured by my calibrated digital thermometer...yes I am one of those who carries these around

Normally I've found it reacts quite quickly, and I can see temps change even during a 15 minute drive. I've also found that is it accurate to within 1 degree C.

Is the sluggish-when-wet normal, or is it an indicator that the sensor is failing?

thank you

Satz

I did see that earlier post. In fact I joined the discussion at the time.

However when I spoke with the Lexus dealer, they said that if the temp sensor fails that it would give an error code.
So it looks like I might have to buy one myself.

Same year RX as yours. They did not mention getting an error code either. Technically, the sensor has not failed. Rather, it is slowly going bad and you are seeing the result. Would venture a guess a new sensor would make you much happier.
