They froze in the middle of expressway and I had to stop and push them down. The driver one moves now without any tension from any position. Is a gear ruined since they still go up and down and out of sync? How do I get them back in sync?

Could be that the arm just needs to be removed and repositioned. No way to tell without pulling the arm off and having a look at the parts involved.

No matter what you find when you get it fixed make sure you replace the washer fluid with -32F washer fluid/anti freeze and keep those defrosters running when snowing.

If ur wiper blade can be pulled up/down manually by hand, it means the pivot nut got stripped. Pop the cap, Tighten the wiper arm nuts. Simple fix.
