Default Glove Box Pin Replacement

I recently purchased a 2007 RX350. In attempting to replace cabin air filter, I noticed one of the pins holding the glove box in place is missing. Dealer said I would need an entire new glove box ($800). Is there an aftermarket source for glove box pins?

Welcome to Club Lexus, rdbindy.

You should not need to purchase a whole new glove box. Besides, am not even sure it comes with that whole assembly. Ask your local Lexus dealership if they have the following in stock. Pull the other pin to use as a comparison to make sure it is the same before you make the actual purchase.

Lexus Part: PIN, GLOVE DOOR STOPPER
Part NO.: 55531-20170

It is a $4 retail part.

This great news. Is the pin in the RX350 (2009) the same pin and part no.? I had a pin that was damaged and did not insert well - discovered it when I went to change the cabin air filter - and the parts guy told me, like they did to rdbindy, that the only way to get a pin was to buy the entire glove box assembly. Tks!

According to a diagram this is the correct part for the 2007 RX350 as far as I can tell. However, am hedging my bets in saying that it would be best to purchase local and compare to the existing and to confer with the person at the parts counter in advance.

As for the 2009, I do not know.

For the record, this does not show up in the Sewell parts database as an RX350 part. Cross referencing to other parts databases does indicate this is the right part for the job. At Sewell, this shows as a part for a 2007 RX400h. Look for 55531C:

my dealer tech forgot to replace that outer panel that covers the are that you first see when you drop the glove box. at least the other panel is put back on. but in your case i would definitely replace that pin if you can.

Thank you.
The cost of the part is less than half the 'shipping' charge, but I will see if I can order it at 'my' Lexus dealer. At that price, it is a cheap gamble that the part is the same.... Again: TKU much!

Let us know if that is the correct part, either way.

That is the correct part number (55531-20170) and the pin works just fine. I had a talk with the dealership about trying to sell a full glove box assembly for $800 when their own parts department could and did order the $10 pin. Thanks to everyone.

That part is like $4 or $5 retail from Sewell. They must have ordered two of them for you and that may be the way they are packaged. Make sure you get two.

I finally found a place where I could order it and not pay 4x the price in shipping (only 1x the price!). In the course of looking, it seemed to me that the same 'pin' is used in many models, from the ES300 on. On that basis, I felt it was 'worth the risk'. I only ordered it yesterday, so it will be a few days before I get it and I will then advise whether it fits the RX350.

Yes, it is the same part for the 2009RX350. Works fine. To reiterate: I believe this part is the same across many of the Lexus models (and probably Toyota too since it is a Toyota-labeled part). I was lucky that the glove-bis so flimsy : I could bend the sides to 'drop it' without taking out the defective pin, which I could not otherwise remove. The moron who had changed the cabin filter prior has badly engaged the pin, yet he forced it (probably with pliers) and damaged the female part, which I later has to carve and fashion to accept the new pin and hold it correctly.
Thank you for the part number. I had ordered two, but finally only needed the one. For $10, it is a pleasure to have a nicely functioning 'pin stopper'.

I passed the info along to Sewell and they updated their database to properly identify this part in their online system. Should be a bit easy now to find it across its many uses.
