Default Front strut replacement

2009 RX350 70K miles

The mount that attaches the end link to the left, front strut has broken. Called my local dealer and the SA didn't know what I was describing to him. Lost all my confidence right there. So I ask him the cost to replace the strut. He says around $500. Now I'm suspicious.

How much time and effort would be required to do this myself?

I plan to do both front struts and mounts. Should I also replace the end links? Anything else while I'm at it?

Thanks, Joe

Just found a YouTube video. I don't think this is something I wish to attempt. I don't have one of those spring compression devices.

OK, so what should it cost to have this work done for me?

Thanks again, Joe

I just did it and its not that bad. Buy KYB struts and new caps. You need a impact driver because the bolts are big and tight. Bring old struts with new ones and have them swap out spring for you. Probably charge ya $50 for both.

you can save some money and buy the parts yourself, then take the new struts and old "loaded" struts to a strut shop and pay 50.00 and have them change out for you. Also check your local NAPA auto parts...some of them will do it as well.

or you can go to Harbor Freight Tools and buy spring compressors for less than $15...I have several and they work, just be very careful....

I'm not buying what the OP is selling. I think he has a broken tie rod end. No way a beefy strut just breaks.
