Default abs problem

I have a 2006 Lexus rx330. Recently i've noticed that when braking just before the car comes to a complete stop i feel and here i grinding sound, then when i accelerate there is a slight hesitation before the the vehicle engages into gear. I have also noticed that occasionally the abs, vsc, traction control and tire pressure lights come on, but then are gone after i shut off the car and restart it. Does anyone know about this? What is the cause and how do i fix it?

I wrote this for someone else this morning, and may apply to your situation as well. These sensors are very sensitive to dirt.

When you pull the wheel off, look behind the brake caliber and you will see the wire going to the wheel/abs/speed sensor. You take off (i believe its a 10mm bolt and it comes right out) Clean it off real good with WD-40 or the like. Do this for all four> ****** However the rear one`s are extremely difficult to remove, may need to soak with a penetrating oil first. I never did get my rear ones out.

See if this helps your problem. If not we`ll take it from there.

Though perhaps not related, make sure they just do not take an impact gun to your lug nuts for your wheels. They should be hand torqued to 76 ft-lbs.

It worked! Thank you lexus114 for the info. My mechanic found the abs sensor on the front driver side was dirty and was out of position, he cleaned and repositioned it and the car drives great again.

I have the same symptoms . Both sensors were VERY dirty. They are essentially small magnets and attract all kinds of small metal particles.

The pics are pretty out of focus but you can definitely see the difference between before and after cleaning.

The bad news is that it didn't solve the problem, so tomorrow I'll attempt the rears. Keeping fingers crossed as this is a real pita. BTW, I hooked up an OBD-II scanner and there were no codes, so the sensors are good.

I'm really curious how that could be possible. The sensor mounts only one way and is positioned by the mounting bolt ??

be careful removing the sensors, they are plastic and can break easily.

might be better to try and clean them in place if possible

The fronts just slid out easily. Clean in place, that's a joke right ?
