04 RX330 Horrible Gas Mileage

Did you have to re-store all radio station presets and the like? or did it retain the station presets etc?
#32
They'll need restored, though I don't use the radio. I stream all my music from my phone via Bluetooth (cheap little solution that works fine).
If anyone would like to know how to get Bluetooth streaming and calls in their RX on the cheap (+/- $25), I'll provide the information for what I'm using.
Better yet, I'll just start a new thread...

how long do you remove the battery terminal for and which one(+ or -) do you take off or does it not matter?
#34
Does not matter which one comes off first, I do however do the NEGATIVE first. Set it and tuck it in so there is no chance of it springing back. Then remove the PLUS. Again tuck it away good.

how about just removing the fuses for the ecu and tcu? Does anyone know which ones those are cause at this point that would be the easiest route for me to go as I dont always have access to tools. Also if i remove the battery cable how long does it have to be removed for?

I've seen one or two references to pulling the fuse(s), but I couldn't find anything specific. I opted for the battery terminal pull. It's a 10mm wrench, I believe, or an adjustable wrench will do the job. I'd advise to avoid using pliers.
As stated a couple of times, it needs disconnected for at least 30 minutes.
In my view, it was easier to just pull the battery terminal and reset everything than it was to keep wasting time digging around the internet looking for what fuses to pull. If I spend an hour looking for the fuses online, that's longer than it takes to do what needs done by pulling the battery.
1) disconnect terminal - less than 1 minute
2) allow it to sit for 30 minutes - 30 minutes (find something constructive to do, and this time is moot)
3) reconnect terminal - less than 1 minute
4) relearn windows - 5 minutes
5) relearn sunroof - 1 minute
6) reprogram radio presets - 2-3 minutes (if you write them down before disconnecting - 2-3 minutes for that as well)
Total time involved - about 45 minutes. There's only one radio station I listen to IF I listen to the radio, so that was a couple seconds for me. My total time (not including my 2 hours nap in between) was about 10 minutes of actual work, and I felt like I actually accomplished something for that 10 minutes of "work" compared to wasting another hour searching online for an answer that I just couldn't find a clear answer to.
The only actual negative, if it's even really considered one, is the readout for MPG will be reset to 0.0. It's a small tradeoff that most shouldn't care about, but the trip mileage will be saved, which is what those of us who track fuel mileage actually care about. I also use Trip B to keep track of miles between oil changes.

speaking of resets; is there a way to manually reset the average mpg on these second gens with the the nav system? I had a 99 300 prior to this and i could easily reset the average mpg whenever I felt the need to. For some reason i dont see a way to do this on these second gens like there should be short of pulling the battery cable. There has got to be a way to do this?

i think that is dumb that they changed the ability to reset the avg mpg on the second gens like that. Why would they take that ability out and then put it back in on the newer ones like they did.

Agreed. My former Subaru Legacy would reset with the trip computer. I thought maybe that was the trick, but that doesn't seem to work, either. It only seems to reset when you add gas to the tank.

Interesting thing happened yesterday. I stopped at Sam's Club for gas. Of course, I use premium, so that's what I was getting. Due to the temps being insanely cold (16º), the pump was as at a snail's pace, taking about 20 minutes to fill up. My low fuel light came on the night before, about 12 miles earlier, so I knew it wasn't close to being bone dry. According to the pump, it took 17.5 gallons to fill it (!), which is quite a lot, considering I've driven it much further with the light on, and it's never taken much over 16 gallons to fill it.
I showed my receipt to the attendant, and asked him to attempt to steer customers away from pumping premium until the pumps started working correctly. He called into the customer service desk, saying I should talk to them about what happened. I was refunded $6. I reset the trip computer and got on the road for my trip.
Side note: when I fill up, I set the nozzle at the mid-way latch, and stop fueling when it kicks off. I don't believe in forcing as much in as possible, as it's hard on the EVAP system of any modern vehicle. Obviously, this Sam's fill up would've pumped in more than my normal technique would allow, but I can't imagine it was THAT much more than usual.
After reaching my destination, I filled up where I always do before returning home. That station has 91 octane 100% gas available, so I decided to give it a try. According to that calculation, my RX got 26.9 MPG... what?!?! The readout was 22.4 MPG. This was my NY trip I discussed earlier, so only about 58 miles of interstate at 70 MPH. The rest of the trip is mountains and 60 MPH and slower.
On the return trip, the display was showing right under 24 MPG. I have't filled up again to see the calculated mileage since I got home. I know the fill up at Sam's threw off the usual calculation, but by that much? Maybe... if there is 1 gallon unaccounted for, it would take the actual to around 22.8 MPG, which would seem a little more likely, and put it closer to what the readout was. The last time I did that trip, the readout was around 22.4, and the actual was right at 22.

[QUOTE=bwsteg;7971874]Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I picked up my RX330 AWD about 2-3 months ago and currently has 110k miles. From my calculations I get about 9-10 MPG and about 140 Miles with 15.5 gallons. All city (Queens/NY) with some air conditioning in between. Is this normal? I had a 01 rx300 previously and I had the same issue but the rx300 would give me about 200 miles to the tank.
I just bought car is same problem with your car and do some maintenance on it like change new air filter and cleaned Maf sensor, i notice a engines was shaking than normal and I was checking on ignition coils, 1 of ignition coils is got bad and make a car not efficient on gas mileage.

Re: rx fuel milage
The 05 rx330 we drive does NOT like premium. She'll run all day at 78mph with a.c. and get 23 mpg in Az. Summer heat. But will throw a catyletic converter code with premium or even a rich mid.
