Default 08 RX350 cranking longer when start

Hello guys, i recently discovered cranking time is way longer than before and brought it to the dealership to check it out, they came back with a quote of $1,700 to replace all fuel injector, as well as battery, total bill would be $2,100, had anyone encountered this kind of problem before? The cranking problem is kinda hit or miss, sometime it fires up easily, sometimes it takes some craning...It is a 08 RX350, so obviously warranty would cover it anymore...Any thought? Much appreciated!!!

I would start with a new battery and some injector cleaner.

Welcome to Club Lexus, Lexus0525.

Slow starting is an indication of a weak battery. Am going to guess you still have the original battery in there. Is due for a change. Take your vehicle to a shop like AutoZone and have them run a free battery test on it for you.

Now would be a good time to start researching what brand battery you will want to put in its place.

As for the injectors, I think the shop is trying to take you there. While at the parts store getting your battery checked you can grab a bottle of Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner and dump that in the tank the next time you fill up.

My LS430 does that too and my battery is new! Lexus dealer said it was a lose bolt on my battery terminal and sold me a new one for $60! The car still has the same problem. I hope it's not a situation where i need new fuel injectors. Once the car is running, it runs fine. Btw, car is in the shop right now. Will report back when I pick it up.

As for injector cleaners the Lexus dealerships use BG44K. It's is more expensive than others, but also considered the best. I had the Lexus dealership perform the following at the 60K service and it really improved the vehicle performance.

"BG Fuel Maintenance Package - Best - Add BG44K Fuel Additive to the fuel tank and perform complete air intake system cleaning and fuel injector cleaning using BG Air Intake System Cleaner". Parts and labor cost $150.

BG44K is the best. I just put it in my Audi and my wife's RX330 yesterday. I usually run a can just prior to my oil change. It works. 1 can is about $18.

Just added some Lucas fuel injector cleaner to my 2012 IS250, will do the samething for the RX350 when tank is empty, will report findings later...

PS: anyone knows where i can buy BG 44K here in Edmonton, Canada? I've seen lots of positive comments on this liquid, but hard to find...

Thanks!

You can try going to the BG site to see if they list anyone selling in your area. Or, you can try eBay:

When my 08 started taking longer to start I just put in a new battery and all was fine, stay away from that dealer. They know the Battery will fix the problem and are up-selling you.

Just got the car back last week...turns out there was a tear in the O-ring in the fuel regulator (or at least I think that's what the people at the shop told me). Took them a few days to figure it out. The ignition still is not as quick as my other cars, but certainly more "normal"

How strange. I just googled RX350 sluggish start and yours came up, but I NEVER mentioned that I have a 2008... So... is this a '08 issue?
