Default 2008 RX350 any known problems before 75k miles?

So I bought my 2008 RX with only 30k miles so it is out of warranty by age not mileage. I do not qualify for a Lexus extended warranty, but I was offered a really good coverage from my credit union. However, max mileage they offer is 75k. Since I am already at 30k, I would be paying $1400 for the best possible coverage with 0 deductible but only for the next 45k miles, until I reach 75k.

Do you guys know of any specific issues this vehicle might have up until 75k miles?

Thanks!

I haven't had any problems at all with my 04 awd with 96+ thousand miles on it. The only thing that has ever needed to be replaced was the battery, but that's a part of regular maintenance. I know some people have had rack and pinion problems and some of the awd models had wheel bearings (I think) go out, but I not personally had any issues at all (except for condensation buildup in one of the taillights, but good luck getting that replaced under any kind of warranty). The other cars we own (05 toyota sienna, 95 toyota corolla) have not had any problems until past about 120k, and with both cars it was problems that were somewhat common with that make/model.

It's ultimately up to you whether you get an extended warranty or not, but my personal experience has been outstanding with toyota/lexus/scion products.

I had the condensation in the right headlight. I brought the TSB to the Lexus dealership under warranty and they replaced it for free, because it is a common problem for a reliable RX 350. To find a used one on Ebay is around $200 - $300.

I've seen others in this forum complain about sticky melted liftgate rubber for the trunk, especially for people who live in southern areas (typically Florida). This has occurred to me on my 08 Sienna. The funny thing is that the rubber cannot be replaced without replacing the entire switch assembly. So that entire assembly was replaced and covered under warranty. The part itself is around $50. A general quote with labor included would be $200 - $230.

In general, any sort of extended warranty is good for the insurance company and bad for the consumer. I'd bet that you'd lose money between now and 75k miles if you sign up for it.

Besides, all the expensive things that could go wrong are covered by the factory powertrain warranty, which goes with the car, not the owner. Powertrain warranty is 6 years/70,000 miles. I think they start counting from the first in-service date, which you could check with your local Lexus dealership with a phone call, or create an account on http://secure.drivers.lexus.com to find out youself.

I guess that after 103 views of this topic and only 2 replies that barely mentioned any real issues...it is a good sign that I should not buy any warranty

GT1209 I did not know exactly how much powertrain warranty is, but the car was put in service July 2007 so there is still some 9 months left or 40k miles

I'd say keep the 1400 somewhere safe for rainy day and forget the warranty if it only covers 45k miles.

It will be three years I've owned my '07 RX350. So far I've only had one issue with the front upper Oxygen sensor (took less than a minute to replace). Also have done front brakes (due to normal wear and tear), have 140,000km now and still running strong.

Wished I would have seen this question sooner. I have a 2008 RX350. It currently has 53,000 miles on it.
Transmission blew a hole in it at 50,100 miles. Just out of warranty but Lexus replaced it for free
Radio quit after about 35,000 miles
Oxygen sensors bank 1 sensor 1 & 2 are bad and will be replaced next week when I replace the rear brakes, rotors, and calipers. The annoying part about this is that Lexus replaced all the brakes with about 48,000 miles on the car for a mere $950 (not one of my smarter moves) and now I find that I have a frozen caliper which chewed up the pads & roter. I'll do this brake job myself!
The car itself I like but I don't feel that a supposedly high end car, or any car for that matter should experience this many issues this soon.

I am going through a similar process - I have an 09 RX350, and I've driven 30K miles since new. The warranty will expire in a month or so. My thinking relates to buying an extended warranty or not. The Lexus dealer in Miami is pushing me to buy an additional "Platinum" 6 yrs/60K miles for $2,500 from 'Fidelity' (unknown to me), but it is not a Lexus warranty, though it has the same coverage (item and geogr. area) and a longer expiration. The Lexus warranty is $1,400 for an additional 4yrs. and 45K miles, which I would probably not reach since I do only about 7.5K miles a year. Or I can do nothing. To date, the car has been trouble-free. It's a tough call....

My 07 build RX350 had a couple of problems which surprised me:

At around 60k (kms not miles) - had to replace the front wheel bearing and VVt mechanism in engine. Also recently one of the exhaust shields starting rattling against the exhaust pipe when it was hot. Apparently it had deformed slightly.

In regards to extended warranty, I'd recommend the actual Lexus one, rather than some aftermarket one (which probably has pages of exclusions!)

Trouble free at 65k, however the engine has got louder in the last 5k.
My lil sewing machine is not so smooth anymore.

It is certified, so its going to the dealer asap. I will update...

cost $1400
Deductible $0
miles covered 45k

what is covered?? how hard is it to get the company to cover it?? research is key. also depends on the options that you have in the rx.
