Just checked and it appears our 09 has the rubber hoses going to the cooler. The VVTi hose appears to have been addressed in late 2009 according to the Lexus history for the car. I'm going to have to look into the oil cooler issue with our mechanic next time we have the oil changed. From the way Lexus is handling this, it appears they are taking their repair/recall training from General Motors. Maybe they hired all the folks that were let go by GM.

A bone chilling thought, to think your 2007 RX can spill all the expensive synthetic oil you've put in and your engine might be a piece of scrap metal. Lexus admits by implication that the rubber oil lines are a bad idea, if the replacement part is metal. Does Lexus read this thread? Isn't it time it is brought under their attention? Guys like mmarshall, salimshah, what do you think?

While rubber may be safely used in some parts of the oil-system (for example, most oil-filters are sealed with a large rubber O-ring to prevent leaks), I agree that it is not a good idea to use rubber for the oil lines themselves. To me, it comes from the same general line of thinking where Ford once tried to design a plastic engine-block (with metal internal moving parts) for weight-savings, then had the sense to give the idea up.

Default Oil Cooler line replacement

I just had my oil cooler line go. Oil was gushing out of the car and I pulled over and had it towed immediately to a Lexus dealer. Apparently, this is a known issue and Lexus is now covering it at 100%. Labor and Parts. Until Jan 31st of 2016. And apparently, the car doesn't even have to be under warranty anymore. Mine isn't. But this is part of a "customer support program warranty enhancement". So it looks like they stepped up to the plate on this one. It is NOT a TSB, so it won't show up on your MyLexus account as a recall or TSB. Also, it has to be actually leaking, for it to be covered. Hope that helps!

Thanks Jadambomb,
So you have to wait until the hose leaks and risk engine damage before Lexus will pay. I wish they would allow those of us who want to do this as a preventative measure pay 1/2 price or some other type of lower cost support. I'd like to get this repair done before the computer says " your engine just expired".

Jadambomb

Will Lexus going to send a letter say it will cover under "customer support program warranty enhancement"? or you have to go to the lexus dealer tell them to check to see it leaking or not?

Roadbike - Yes, that's my understanding. I was thinking the same thing. Why risk a complete engine failure over this? But apparently they won't cover it unless it is actually leaking.

kknguyen11 - My understanding is that the letters just started going out recently. I think in August or something. But chances are that if oil is not spewing out from under your car, then it probably is not leaking.

But yes, I think they said up to 150,000 miles or 10 years from first use. Up until Jan 31st of 2016. If this ever happens to anyone, bring it to a lexus dealer and tell them about the "customer support program warranty enhancement" for the oil cooler line, and they should definitely know what you are talking about.

Does this oil cooler line issue apply to 2004 RX330s or only to 2007-2009 RX350s?

I believe that the pathetically bad idea to use rubber hoses to route 90psi blistering hot engine oil outside the block was made for the 350 engine, so RX350s from 2007 to sometime in 2011 will have this hose assembly. Somewhere back in this thread you can find the exact serial numbers. The 330 engine did not use the part.

google 2007 RX350 service campaign shows:
SC9LH-Phase-1 NOV 09 Campaign - Engine VVTi Oil Hose Replacement

Is the VVTi Oil hose campaign still active?

Thanks.

The 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 Toyota engine is on Sienna, Avalon, Camry, Lexus ES & RX, Rav 4 yada yada and the vvt-i rubber oil line on those manufactured before April 2008 is their downfall ..... as well as this oil cooler hose up through 2011 (how ironic ......... an oil cooler to lower engine oil temperature is designed with a flawed rubber hose ...... how F'N stupid is that?.. Toyota has issued a recall good until year 2021.for the vvt-i oil hose and just replaced an engine in a 2007 Camry for free. I have the documents so PM me if you need a copy.

Lexus also paid for a $3,500 used engine in a 2007 ES350 purchased in 2006. Never any oil changes at dealer and oil change interval appears less than stellar. . ..

Thank you so much. Great news. Look, as much as there is bashing of Lexus for engineering this flawed design, let's give them credit for stepping up and addressing the
issue. I'm impressed.

Does this means these hoses have been replaced on my 2009 rx350 ?. Are there 2 different hoses that fail and need replace?. 9LH is one hose and 9609KB 080 is the other ? Right ?. I got this report for my rx350 from www.lexusdrivers.com.

Dealer Reported 12/22/2009 Sewell Lexus 14614 1552975 9LH REPLACE OIL COOLER HOSE FOR RX 350 - 9LH - 14614 9LH REQUIRED. 9609KB 080 REPLACED OIL CONTROL HOSE PER CAMPAIGN INSTUCTIONS

Only way to know that is for you to take a look. I had a family member who is a mechanic look at mine and stated the hose looked absolutely new so at some point mine was changed along with all then other belts & hoses. I'm 100% sure I'm in the minority as my RX is the same as yours. At some point I'll change TWO areas of concern.
Oil cooler line.
Vvti line.
Have Midas or tour trusted shop take a look. At Midas they have in their database every known tsb and non tsb info on the RX.

Mine was done in Mar 2010, I went thru the record, it has the "9609KB 080" along with the 9LH description, so very likely you only did the 9LH, which is the VVTi oil hose.

The engine oil cooler pipe here is a different one.
