no royal purple (even though I don't use it - it has quite the cult following)?

1. Expensive, yes. The very best - debatable.
2. Too heavy - it's almost a 40 wieght, IIRC

Amsoil, maybe?

What, exactly, does this "research" consist of and what was the criteria and method used for determining "best"?

It's generally not regarded all that well. It's mostly coloring and marketing from what I understand. BTIOG's a good resource in general.

Any known brand of oil in the correct weight will be fine as long as you change it every 5000 - 7500 miles.

Some people say their engine runs more smoothly on some oils. It could be true, too many variables to know for sure, IMHO.

I personally like Amsoil and Ultra, but the Amsoil is more of a hassle to get, and more expensive.

Agree with RCY saying that #2 GC 0w-30 might be too thick..

it is a thick 30w and although I use it on our G35 and bmw 330.. for the lexus, it might be too thick..

won't hurt anything on the lexus, but fuel economy might suffer at bit...

Have a look at the attached chart that I received from Lexus Canada. You can run 5w30, 5w20 or 0w20 in the 2007 RX. The 20 weight might actually help the engine run cooler, believe it or not. I've attached it as picture and a .pdf so you can download a copy of the .pdf is so desired.

The chart you show seems to indicate that ALL the RXs can use the Toyota 0W20 oil.

It's more crowded at the top. Motul, Liqui Moly, Royal Purple are all very high quality.
