Default 2005 RX Brake Light Replacement.

I have been lurking here for awhile and just signed up. I did a few searches and found that this topic was a little vague, so I wanted to post my experience. I have noticed that there was a questions if the brake light is bulb or LED. It is LED (12 LEDs).

When in doubt, take it out......

Here is the access panel for the tail lights.

It is a little fuzzy, but here is the back with the panel off. There is a small white plug on the right side and two bulbs (running light and blinker) that twist out.

In the above picture you can see a bolt on the lower right. This is one of three. After all the wires are disconnected, take off the three nuts. Now the entire unit slips out of the back and you end up with this. The bolt that I have between my fingers will slip off to allow for clearance (removing LED ring).

There are 2 T20 screws holding the LED ring to the inner carriage.

There are 3 phillip screws holding the inner carriage in place. I took these out to allow for a little more play inside the housing.

Here is a picture of the LED ring half out of the housing. It really does come out.

this is what the ring looks like.

Up in the top left hand corner is a small square hole.

This little square tab has to go in that hole.

You have to put the LED ring in and then rotate around to line them up.

Put everything back in reverse order, rinse and repeat (with mirror) on the other side.
Success!!

I was having a hard time getting the right info. Even the Lexus dealership tried to hand me a bulb (#192 / #194). I had to take the ring apart, take it to Lexus and say "order this". This was taken over two nights. The Rings cost about $100.00 bucks a side, through dealer.

If you have the part numbers off your receipts to post that might help others as well. Thanks, again. Luckily, all my original bulbs are still working at the moment.

The dealership told me that I needed to replace both rear brake led rings

Here is the information on part numbers for other Club Lexus members.

81563-48060 - LH REAR LAMP L.E.D. LED UNIT
81553-48060 - RH REAR LAMP L.E.D LED UNIT

The dealer quoted me $425 to replace both units. I found an awesome deal on Ebay, OEM toyota parts $159.75 shipping included.

I hope this helps other CL members.

the part has a strange name, it is called "BODY".

BODY, left, Japan built - 81563-48060
BODY, right, Japan built - 81553-48060

BODY, left, U.S. built - 81563-0E010
BODY, right, U.S. built - 81553-0E010

parts.com has them for $65.61 (japan built) and $72.22 (US built). Of course there are shipping charges.
mylparts.com has them for $74.91 (japan built) and $82.47 (US built). Plus shipping charges.

Thanks to all on this thread. At least half of the LEDs weren't working on the right rear of our RX330 and I replaced the entire assembly with a Toyota OEM unit for $170 (shipped) via eBay. Three bolts (small hands help for the upper bolt) and two wiring connectors and it pops right out for replacement. Thanks to this thread. I am thinking about ordering the LED part and fixing up my old one for a spare or resale. Thanks again.
