Default 05 rx330. Hitch lights not working

So I installed the hitch on my 05 RX 330, everything went without a problem. Harness connected in the right spot etc. so I hooked up a trailer and can't get the lights to work. There's no power coming from the harness as tested with a voltmeter. Checked the fuses up front and they seem to be fine. Any ideas?

If the 30A fuse #15 checks as good I would check the harness to see if you have power back where you made the connection.

No luck yet, found this on another forum:

For anyone searching for archival purposes

82670-0E040 is the part number for the towing ENabled junction box
82670-0E030 is the part number for the towing DISabled junction box

Externally the two parts are identical. There is only a manufacture date on a sticker and the code Toyota PP-T30 or Toyota >PP-T30< molded into the plastic shell of the junction box. And, the part number is on the open plastic bag in which the dealer receives the part. It seems like there is a lot of potential for confusing mix-ups on the parts shelf.

Out of curiosity I disassembled the old towing disabled converter to see what was different. The big plastic box contains a small circuit board soldered to pins going to the outside connectors. I would suppose that only this board differs between part numbers.

Why on earth Toyota doesn't just put the towing enabled converter on all units it produces is anybody's guess. I am certain that there is no difference in the production cost of the towing enabled vs. disabled boards. Seems very un-Toyota-like.

To provide a counter point to many who found this job easy, I found this job to be a giant PITA. I would have gladly paid the dealer $900 for the hitch plus install in retrospect. I found the FSM illustrations hard to follow and had to read and re-read many times to feel confident proceeding. And the electrical connectors to the junction box / converter were a bear to get loose in a space with restricted access.

Where in the hell is this junction box? I did find the tow fuse on my fuse box ....so I am hoping it is towing enabled.....

Default RX330 Trailer Wiring 82670-0E040?

Andresatp, I have the exact same issue you describe. Did you swap out the junction block 82670-0E040. Please post any details, thanks.

Nope, have not had any luck with it! Let me know what you end up doing.

Final update for install of OEM trailer hitch and wiring on my non-TO package 2004 RX 330.

Successfully installed the junction box #82670-0E040 which I had ordered from http://www.mylparts.com for $179.13. Before ordering the part, I had confirmed with my local Lexus dealer that I did not have the TO package installed on my car and needed to swap out the junction box. I also put on the factory Highlander hitch (same part number as the 2004 RX) which I got from www.toyotaaccessoriescheap.com for $257.33. This is a great looking hitch (as far as hitches go), well designed to fit the car. I'm also believe this is a great way to go because it avoids spicing into any factory wires. So I saved hundreds by not having the dealer do the install, but did spend some extra to get the look and quality that fits the car.

OBTW, the junction box sits right behind the driver side rear seats under the decking. It might be possible just to remove the deck board and seat-back carpet and work from the front, but I ended up disassembling the entire back and pulling the metal cover to make access to the junction box easier. It's time consuming, but fairly straightforward and not hard for the average do-it yourselfer.

One more note. The junction boxes look identical and have the same number stamped on both. It was strange because I never found the part number I ordered. It's only when you open them up that you see that the 030 part only has half of the circuit board in the 040 part. From what I read online, has something to do with the LED tail-lights--another reason to not splice into the tail-lights unless you really know what you are doing. I prefer plug and play and this was all good for me in the end.
