Please do post your results. Also, for what it's worth, don't just stick a stamp or two on the bottle...I did that the first time and it took THREE WEEKS to show up at Blackstone. The next time I splurged for overnight mail and had the report Emailed to me less than 24 hours after the sample left my hands.

Years ago I did the "beater-in-the-winter" thing. It's a PITA, because winter here is inconsistent. You can get nice days when you wish you were driving a decent car. Then when you least expect it, a nice day in the nice car can turn nasty.

Default Lexus Oil Recommendation Chart

That Toyota chart you posted is what I received from Toyota CANADA back in early 2011 and posted at bobistheoilguy, here, and lexusownersclub.

Since that time, I also emailed Lexus CANADA and received this chart (which I've also posted at bobistheoilguy and lexusownersclub.com) and I'm pretty sure I posted it here too, probably in the maintenance section.

As you can see, you can run 0w20, 5w20 or 5w30 in the 330.

Try Castrol Edge Titanium Full Syn. It's much better than Mobil 1 from my experience. You can get a jug at wal-mart for cheap.

I wonder if that Canada chart ever came to the U.S.? And if not, why not?

The manual is only a guide. Oil analysis is the way to go. I go 10k on mobil1 but it is not a RX so i can't mention. But at 5k i change the filter and add about a qt of new oil..... Didn't Mobile1 change awhile back? And now that formula is in Mobil1 5000 (or is it 10k) What is now Mobile1 is not a true synthetic like it was before

I am not a DIYer, so changing the filter is as much hassle for me as getting the whole thing done. If I can't go 10K, I'll just go back to good but cheaper dino oil and change every 5K. I am disappointed in Mobil1...and I don't know what they were before, but they label their stuff NOW as "real" synthetic. And a REAL synthetic should go 10K miles.

I assumed it's REAL synthetic too. And they don't make OW-20 in the "extended performance" version. And I'm not that greedy (15K). I'd just like to get 10. What's the point of even the "non-extended" Mobil 1 if it shows the same wear expected from "mere" dinosaur juice at 5000 miles.

That's the main point of this thread (other than to promote discussion of the whole oil subject): Why pay more for synthetic, in this case Mobil1, if it show wear similar to regular oil at 5000 miles?

I just bought Dino oil for the first time in many years and was surprised at the cost. Last time i got Dino oil it was under a buck.

Neilaz, you make a good point that synthetic is not that much more than dino. Agreed. But it doesn't really negate my point that synthetic should hold up better than dino, even if the cost for synthetic is only a little bit more.

Nothing wrong with Conventional oil. Motor`s have run hundred`s and Thousand`s of miles on Conventional motor oil. All this Synthetic hype is a lot of marketing! Only real advantage to using it is extended miles. Personally I like to get all that moisture/crud outta there every five thousand miles.

Default Synthetic required

In the new engine family of low friction 3.5's starting with the 2010 models 0w5w synthetic is required. Normal schedule for oil and filter is 10,000 miles. I'm on my 3rd oil change at 30k and the car had 37500 when I decided to pull 3oz and send it to Blackstone for analysis. Bottom line, the oil works. They have a base line on me now so I'll do it again probably at 45,000 just to see if there is any difference. The report arrived today, here it is.
