Default High Flow/ Aftermarket Catalytic Converter

My RX is approaching 130k miles. I need to replace the plugs, and I don't think that it needs a new catalytic converter, but it is probably getting close. I have searched and found that some High flow cats will cause CEL codes. So, I am wondering if I should look into replacing the cat with a high flow or stay close to stock, or if I change both the plugs and the cat, will I still get error codes.

Catalytic converters dont normally die, there murdered. Yes they do have a service life. But I believe it`s for a very long time. If your using the correct fuel, dont have any miss fire condition, or burning too rich/lean. They should last a lifetime. When I say using the correct fuel; I`m talking about Premium. Regular unleaded can be used, however it retards the timing (amongst other things) which will cause higher combustion temps, hotter exhaust temps,( which are not good for the converters) Hotter exhaust valve temps. I know there are people on here that insist their Lexus runs just fine on regular fuel. And thats fine, but they wont get the full potential from the motor, decrease air/fuel ratio sensor life, and decrease Catalytic converter life as well.

X2. Another cause, is if the car is burning oil...Usually though CAT's are good for the life of the car.

Stay stock. Unless you really have something wrong that's the best advice.
