I know someone who had to replace an O2 sensor and his cat failed emission testing after using Seafoam. I'd not let this stuff anywhere near my Lexus.

Why do you want to use it?

Use Seafoam in your gas tank. Read the directions in the can. I have not used it other than the gas tank.

it isnt really necessary on newer vehicles. only add the the gas tank if you think it is necessary on your lexus. i poured sea foam straight in the intake of my old truck to clean the cyclinders.

I've used it on other cars through the brake booster line. It's safest to run it through the gas tank though.

May I ask why you want to use seafoam?

i've used it in an older car. 1/3 in the gas tank, 1/3 in the vacuum line, and 1/3 in the oil (drive 25 miles then changed the oil). i'm too paranoid to use it in my lexus

I put an ounce in every tank during the winter. Helps to off set this garbage fuel that`s out now. And add`s lubricity.

Just do as it says, 1/3 in tank, 1/3 thru brake booster, 1/3 in engine via oil cap. Drive on it for a few miles - i did 30ish then went for an oi change.

But these cars are too new to bother with this. I did it on my ES300 once - didn't smoke as bad as some of the clips you see on youtube... had 110k on it then.

I'd leave it alone, run some injector cleaner once in a while [essentially a similar 'tool' since it cleans the injectors and burns off crud on the way out, i use Lucas on the ES & RX330 once in a while].

Here we go... a cat & O2 don't simultaneously fail after a seafoam session. Your buddy had a poorly maintained car prior to doing the seafoam treatment for having those two items go at once... Please tell me you don't actually believe a proven & tested product of over 20 years, was the culprit...

His car, a 99 RX300, was running fairly well but had a rough idle, he thought he would fix it with SEAFOAM. After SEAFOAM his vehicle had some maintenance lights and ran worse and failed emission testing. After the O2 sensor replacement he still couldn't pass the emissions test and found the cat needed replacement. The service manager told him all this was due to SEAFOAM. The repair cost him around $1800.

Hence the reason for my question to the OP, "Why do you want to use it?"

^ service mgr is in business to make money. Had they not said they used seafoam i'm willing to be he'd be 'stumped'. I know this business, and spend time in it... Seafoam was a scapegoat in this case.

Rough idle alone tells the story here. I have the same car with same engine as that RX - runs great.

Doesn't alter the fact that after using SEAFOAM his car ran worse and was throwing maintenance lights. This had nothing to do with the service manager at this point as he had not been involved yet.

I've also just did a quick scan on the internet and find it not unheard of that SEAFOM has caused O2 and cat issues for some. If you like it fine, I have no oar in this water. I don't use it and have never found a reason to consider using it.

It`s catalytic converter safe. But I never use more than a couple ounces at a time either.
