Default Decisions, Decisions

I have had the quarter window trim fill off on my driver's side (the passenger side to you guys in the US). Now it's almost been next to impossible to find the trim piece (albeit with purchasing it with the window) for a reasonable price. Lexus OEM will charge me in excess of $400, wreckers down under are $250+. Haven't been able to find one on the web anywhere as of yet. So I was thinking, do I replace this part (once I have been able to source the part) or do I just go ahead and get a chrome surround for the car. The chrome surround would be the cheaper option of course. Only thought is whether that chrome surround would cover the whole area where the trim piece has been lost and whether there would be any backing problems for the tape (then again the chrome surround would just sit in the small recess that has been created by the trim magically flying off).

I found this => .

What are your thoughts? Go the chrome or go the original black (which I will probably never find for the price I want)? I have a silver car, but I don't have any pictures of a silver car with the chrome surround (does anybody)?

It will be offset... This sticks on top of existing trim, so if you lost it, it will sit lower than the rest.

Don't do all chrome, if you must do around all the windows [like the lexus GS], otherwise its too much IMO.

This is perhaps a new development. Have sent a private message to Sewell to see what the story is as this price, our cost just north of $100, is much less than previously available. However, I did notice that for many model years, like my 2004 RX330, the part is only available for those RX built in Canada. Confusing as the hybrids, which I think are all built in Japan, show the part as available but with no country designation as to what it fits.

I agree. I would only do around the window, not the full chrome everywhere. That would look silly I think.

You sir are a legend. I never look at Sewell being in Australia. I will contact Sewell and see what the cost is going to be for postage. I found this which is even cheaper

Please note my concern in my post above. The part you indicate states that it is for Canada built RX. I have not heard back from Sewell to my PM.
