Someone tried stealing my Lexus
While visiting some old friends someone tried to break in my RX350.
I had this vehicle less than a month and now I have to take this back to the dealer. I'm contemplating if I should report this to my auto insurance and have them pick up some of the tab or just straight out of pocket. Not sure besides the door cylinder if anything else will need to be replaced.
I'm sure this won't be a one day job. Anyone have any suggestions beside leaving a pit pull in the car?

They were not able to get in the car as far as I can tell. Nothing open, nothing missing. I left the car parked on the street over night and walked over to it this afternoon and saw the handle. I called the police to file a report. I have a 1k deductible so that's why I'm on the fence.
By the time I notice this the dealership were closed. I plan to call around tomorrow, but I wanted to know if they could just replace the door handle or would they have to replace every lock that uses this key, meaning glove box and ignition key?

Here's how it looks now. They had the cylinder but didn't have the cap to go over it. I called another dealer and they didn't have it either. I'll call around to a few more places and if not I'll see if I can order it myself.
I'm just hoping this is not an invitation for folks to pick at it.
The dealer told me I had 2 options, to get a second set of keys just for the door and that would be $308 (didn't mention if the keys came with it) or that I could use the same key but to cut and program it would be $411. I had a $75 discount coupon from their website on any service over $200 so I went with the option of using the same keys.

Yes, I'm glad that it was cheaper than my deductible, but I just paid my insurance premium. I use to be a long time believer in not using your insurance (the days of only carrying liability) but now I no longer avoid using it.
But it looks as though I may have to go back to the dealer. When I remove the key, the steering while is not moving back to the dash and the alarm is not coming on. Now I have to use the key to lock the door.

Surprisingly the dealer called me yesterday and told me they had the cap. When I spoke to the rep he told me that it would be about $10 to $12 but when I went to the dealership parts dept and he just said here and handed me the part, the service area will put it on for you.
I just walked out with the part and put it on myself.
