Default 08 RX350: How many quarts at change?

Howdy folks. About to do an oil change on an 08 RX350. Is 6.4 quarts the right amount of oil to use during an oil and filter change? That's what the manual says, but there is no note about dry fill versus change, etc... I just want to be sure I have it right. I'm planning on going with 6.4 quarts of Castrol Edge 5W-30 and the Wix filter.

Anyone know the answer?

I think I may be of some help since my ES has the same engine. I change my own oil and filter on my '08, and after letting the oil drain for about 30 minutes, it generally takes anywhere between 5.3 to 5.7 quarts to fill it up near the full mark on the dipstick. I do not think that I have ever been able to put in 6.4 quarts or even 6 quarts without overfilling it, even though it states 6.4 quarts in the manual. I must say that although I would like to have the oil level at the full mark, now I just try to make sure that it is at least slightly above the halfway mark and below the full mark.

On my last two oil changes I put in 5.4 quarts, about 5 quarts 13 oz., of oil and it filled it up slightly above the halfway mark on the dipstick. I would suggest pouring in 5.4 quarts, then driving to get the engine to operating temp, then check the oil level on the dipstick to see if you need/want to add anymore.

My 08 350 uses 6.6qts for oil change with filter change. If I use 6.4 qts it only gets to about half between the max and min. I always add 0.2qt more so that it is above half between max and min. I guess 6.4 should work also because it is above min.

I put it 6.5 quarts and it is darn close to the max line.

Follow the 6.4 Quarts as outlined in the Lexus manual.
