Note that these issues might be covered by the emmisions warranty which is 84 months? Not sure, better check before spending the money.

Suggest you check the Lexus Emmisions Warranty, what components are covered and for waht period. Chanches are you are covered.

That sounds a bit... well... wrong.

Can't argue with the price, however, no warranty and little recourse if something goes wrong as I am sure there is probably no paperwork either.

I find it hard to believe that a Lexus dealership would let one of their mechanics work on Lexus vehicles at their facility under the table.

That is a killer price for a BACK COIL removal as it takes a few hours to change the plugs in the rear.

If it is the front coil, you simply need a 10mm ratchet and can disconnect the coil wire using a small flat head screw drive and your thumb.

Rear ones are difficult, fronts are VERY easy.

As for having it done at the dealership, under the table, well......I wouldn't be comfortable with that as you will have no warranty for the work if anything goes wrong.

If it is a rear coil, you may consider replacing all three while he is back there as they are all likely to go out at some point. Just a thought.

A few months late but for what it is worth, I just had ignition coil #5 replaced at my Lexus dealership on my 2007 Rx 350. The all-in price was 290.xx without tax. I felt this was a GREAT price given I cannot even see the rear coils and plugs. I called around, and the dealership was by far the cheapest.

I wonder what a Toyota shop would charge?

Funny you mention that... I called 2 local Toyota service centers related to my recent LEXUS RX 350 ignition coil and O2 sensor issues, and was told by both Toyota service depts that the Lexus service centers have MORE model specific software and tech toys than what they (Toyota) would have for my vehicle. They basically said to take it to Lexus and they did not offer a price estimate. I guess I could call back and say I need the repair, but on my 2007 Highlander just to see....

But, armed with that information, I would use Toyota for some of the more mundane fixes since they are closer to my home... but my repair sounded (at least to me) like something I would want those Lexus specific tools for. And the labor rate is $92 at Toyota, and $95 at Lexus, so the math didn't sway me. And if they are turning away the work, I certainly wasn't going to push back.

Late reply but for other Lexus owners who have this problem. My RX350 only has 23,775 miles but today when I started it the VCS, Check Engine and Traction Control light were all lit on dash. Engine ran very rough. Took it to the Lexus dealer and the diagnostics threw a PO356code -#6 ignition coil has internal failure. Replace #6 ignition coil and clear code. Approx $250. RX runs good now.

Default check engine/vs light on

My tachometer meter keeps going up on its own while driving. The engine revs by its self. What could be the problem?
