Default Check Air Conditioning Warning

I just purchased a 2007 RX350 with 43k miles. A day or two after getting it home I noticed a warning pop up on my navigation screen that said "Check Air Conditioning". When this happens the air conditioning stops working, only the fan is running. If you turn the AC off and then back on it works just fine again. This seems to happen only when the engine is cold or first started and doesn't happen every time. I found a couple of very old postings on this subject that others were experiencing, but none seemed to post a solution to the problem.

Mine is not certified so I don't have warranty coverage and would be on my own to fix the problem. Any input would be much appreciated!

Milage says you are still under Lexus base warranty. The date of sale may be the other factor to determine if the base warranty is still in effect. Take a chance and go to the dealer before the base warranty clocks out.

Carfax says first sold on 5/30/2006 so I don't think I have any warranty left in this case.

Default Check A/C

When I tried to install a new Kenwood head unit into my RX. I got this message.

On the 2007 RX350 with Nav and Mark Levinson. The head unit runs alot of the information on the screens. If you have the regular stereo. It doesn't. Something to do with the video and DVD player.

Anyways, The Check A/C light came on because the Head Unit wasn't connected any longer. Since yours is intermittent. The wiring on the head unit connector may be loose.

It takes about 10 minutes to remove the head unit. You can get to the back of the radio head unit and see if the connectors may be loose. If that's not it the head unit itself maybe be bad.

Pull up on the cover around the gear shifter.
Pull out on the small wooden panel underneath the radio.
The head unit is held in by 4 large bolts.
Remove these and the head unit comes loose.

Be very careful with the bolts. They are easy to drop and lose.

I believe the original warranty on the 2007 RX is 4 years/50,000 miles. That makes me a year our of warranty with a May 2006 in-service date. I can check the wiring to the head unit as outlined but I kind of doubt that. There are a number of post in other forms on GS models etc. that have this same issue and it was found to be a "relay" in the fuse box. The RX 350 doesn't seem to have a relay like the others do, but it seems related.

Since you asked for any suggestion:

1. Check the belt tension.
2. Check the sight glass.
3. Have the pressure (hi and lo) checked out in the refrigerant lines.

Search for self diagnosis for A/C system.
Since you recently purchased the vehicle, and if by a dealer, try going back to them. They may not do the fix for you for free, but they may have it diagnosed for free.

I have a non-nav and every time I go over a puddle, the AC light blinks [this is normal behavior] .

I really think this is an electrical only problem. The warning only happens when the car is first started and not every time. It will never come on once the car has been running or if the car has been recently started. It's acts more like the "relay" issue others have seen when initial power is given to the system when cold. The air blows cold and works perfectly. Belts are all good and refrigerant seems fine.
