Smile Key Replacement?

Hello,

So I recently purchased an 04 RX330 and I had a couple questions about the keys. I heard that some have microchips in them or magnets that allow you to use the key for the ignition. First, I am wondering if my key has a chip? And second, I only have the spare key, the previous owner lost the primary key w/ remote. So, can I just get a key made at by a locksmith or do I have to pay the $300 for a key from Lexus? (Please note I don't have the silver tag which indicates the serial number for the key cut) Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Thomas

All cars made after 1998 have chips in keys (you mean immobiliser, right?). If you don't have that silver tag, I believe you might need to contact the dealer (however, I'm not 100% sure iabout this... maybe someone else can also make a new key for you).

Instead of paying the stealership $300 for the factory key/remote, just buy a blank Lexus key/remote from Fleabay for $50, take your it (with your key) to a local locksmith who can cut it to match. Then take your newly cut key to the Lexus dealer for programming. Depending on how you ask, they could charge anywhere from $0-$30 to program it.

The Lexus dealer wanted $276.00 to reprogram my keys. A local locksmith came to my home and did it for $40.00

You guys are great! I will definitely try that and see what happens! Thanks so much! Also, has anyone put in any aftermarket remote starts or alarms? I am thinking about doing it and wasn't sure if it would be worth it? Thoughts on that?

Also, on the keys, is there anyway to have a "flip key" that hides away into the remote? Sorry to keep asking a million questions...

It won't work, unless you always leave the key in your car (otherwise the car could not be remotely started because of immobiliser).

Really? That sucks. Is there anything you have done to your Lexus that you would highly recommend I do? Thanks for responding by the way...

I'm happy with all the stuff which comes from the factory (I got a model with all options except screens for rear passengers). The only thing I done - tinted front windows.

This is a DIY fix for stopping the moisture going into the headlight.

Thank so much! I bought a new light from Ebay (HID) and I installed it, the problem is there is still condensation?! How is that possible? It's a brand new light? My plan is to replace the O-rings on all the actually bulb sockets. Any other ideas as to why moisture would still be getting in the new headlight?
