I purchased the StrongArm brand struts for the lift gate and had no issues installing them. No modifications were needed. However the struts are giving out and you have to manually lift the gate up. I purchased these on Dec 5,2013 so they barely lasted 2 years, I would avoid the StrongArm brand.

We have tried helping it close to maybe program the new cylinders, but it still won't close on its own
The gate opens fine when electronically activated. Just won't close..

Any suggestions?
Hey Miminjd444, sorry to revive this thread from the dead but I just replaced my struts with ones from liftsupportsdepot.com and I'm having the same problem. Trunk will open fine but only closes half way then opens again. Did you end up finding a solution for this? Thanks

This sounds like the motor is going out. Did you try lubricating the struts to see if that'll help?

I just replaced my struts yesterday with Strong Arm's from Lift Supports Depot. They work great. They swapped out really quickly and the whole job was 5 minutes. The old ones last winter were opening but not extending all the way open when it was cold. I am hoping these new ones do the trick.

Amazon has the Monroe struts for our car for $16 each with free 2-day shipping if you have Prime (who doesn't?). Just ordered a pair on Sunday and it showed up today. If you guys are having issues with the struts, you shouldn't wait to change them out because it causes wear on the motors and when those go out, they're a costly replacement.

Default liftgate issue- closes on my head

I seem to have the opposite problem. My 2005 RX330 opens but then beeps and closes on my head. Whats the problem and the fix? Mostly does it in cold weather.

Welcome aboard!

You need new struts. Mine had trouble opening, so I oiled the struts to see if it would help. Once I did that, it would open, then immediately beep and start closing on me. The struts are too weak to hold the hatch open.

Make sure you get the correct ones. There are different ones depending on the power hatch option. You'll need to make sure you get them for power hatch.

I ordered these on eBay.

Do you happen to have the link or part number by any chance? Thanks.

I'm having issues with the power hatch recently and coincidentally right after I stumbled upon this thread.

When I open the hatch via the motor, it will beep once fully opened and start to close immediately. A second try will get it to successfully stay open.

Read my reply at #23. I had the same problem.

Is this normal wear and tear or is it considered a defect of some kind?

Sorry to reply to an old post, but could this be a symptom of using the non-power struts with a power lift gate?
