Yeah, it is an auto dimming mirror. If you have the mirror and the camera, you should be good to go. All the required wiring harnesses are included in the mirror and camera. Just find a dependable installer.

Hi all,

I'm thinking of installing a backup camera too since my wife has been driving more now with my daughter and city parking is tough. I have a 2008 RX350 and I believe the back of the rear view mirror has some kind of sensor (rain detector?) Does the rearview mirror/camera kit has that function too? A few post back someone mentioned that it has auto dim so that's good. I just don't want to lose any function with the original mirror once I replaced with the kit mirror.

Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I think the rain sensor is located just above the rear view mirror mount directly on the windshield.

If your 2008 has the factory navigation, you could use your nav screen as a monitor instead of replacing your mirror. Just get a video interface module.

Okay I see. What is the little square thing behind the rearview mirror then? I think it's some kind of sensor (compass maybe?) Does the replacement kit has compass direction shown?

my bad dai-

I thought all newer RXs had factory navigation. I don't think you have to worry about the rain sensor being affected. Just make sure you get a reputable installer. The Gentex mirrors with the larger rear camera displays (3.3" & 3.5") do not have the compass though. But you can get the Gentex mirror with the smaller rear camera display (2.4") with or without the compass. Since my wife has no sense of direction, she didn't use the compass that much. Besides, we just use the compass on a portable Garmin GPS if we really need to. All Gentex mirrors are auto-dimming, so they're great at night too.

As far as the setup goes, it's awesome. It makes city parking, parallel parking, and backing into parking stalls easy. I think all cars should have a backup camera, especially for safety reasons.

I'm debating on a mirror camera, or going with the in-dash.

Carver-are you swapping it out? If so why..

No, I'm very happy with the Kenwood CMOS 200. The whole set up has been perfect since IOS5 and the 4S. Haven't missed a BT connection since Oct 14!

I'm pretty sure that little square thing is a light sensor for the auto dimming feature on the mirror. When it gets dark, it decreases the glare from headlight reflections behind you.

Like I said, the model with the smaller LCD display 2.4" (GENK245 - $479) had the built-in compass display. The larger displays (GENK332 3.3"-monitor $376, and GENK352 - 3.5"-monitor $399) DO NOT have the compass.

However there is one (GENK3345) that has a 3.3" monitor, compass, and Homelink for $659.
