Default 04 RX330 - Power liftgate issue

I have a 04 RX330 AWD and I noticed yesterday when I opened the rear door, it didn't stay open when it reached the top. As soon as the rear door reach the top position, it came back down and closed the door. First, I thought I pressed the button to close but when I tried a few more times, it was keep happening.

Can someone please help me what I need to do?

Thank you.

Do you have any object obstructing the door mechanism ? Double check that if not call dealer up and ask them to first try to reset the rear lift gate if all else fail, diagnostic.

You can try manually opening and closing the door which resets the system. You might also lightly lube the strut braces to reduce any friction. My 04 was getting a bit slow and noisy until I lubed the strut shafts with a little silicone.

Also try lubrication of the lifts. Silicone spray not lithium grease. May be sticking a bit and the friction may be causing the issue.

Unfortunally nobody really understands how the rear door works including myself.I really don't think Lexus techs know much about it either. When under warrenty they just throw new parts in until something works. When the vehicle is NOT under warrenty that option gets costly quick. I guess we live with it. I have the same issues, so do a lot of other customers and there is no real solutions that i can see. Jamie

Replace the rear hatch support struts. It's simple. I did it on my own and it takes 5 mins to pop the clip off and insert a new one. Got them on Amazon for less than $50 for two. Struts only last about 5 years before they get weak enough to start causing ssues
