Default FWD, RWD or AWD

Hi,

I have no idea how to tell whether my RX300 (2004) is an RWD, FWD or AWD other than go to the dealer.

does anyone know any other way to tell?

Oz.

There is no RWD RXs, if you look under the RX and see a drive shaft going to a rear differential it is the AWD, all others are FWD.

Also, the VIN will tell you.
One of the digits is an indicator, but I don't recall exactly what it is. Searching the forum will give you the posts.
I think that the 4th digit is the one involved.

Go look underneath. If you have a differential, you are AWD.

I have a 1999 awd rx300 with a blown engine. Can I use a fwd engine if I change some of the components from the awd? If so, what must I change to make it work?

That project does not sound cost-effective. I'd look into the economics of totaling out the '99 and buying something comparable, like a 2000 RX AWD, because you know that one will work.

With the RX330, the fourth letter of the VIN designates FWD vs AWD.
-JTJG is Japan mfg, FWD
-JTJH is Japan mfg, AWD.
