Default RX400h 2006 Headlight replacement

HI, I have a 2006 RX400h. Both of my highbeam lights went out at the same time. I called my area dealer and was told it would be $1000.00 to replace both lamps! I am amazed by this. I am assuming this means replacing entire units. What ever happened to popping in another bulb? Can anyone tell me if this is a possibility and if it can be done in my garage? Are there written instructions as to how to do it?
Thanks

Did your lights go bad simultaniously? If yes, it could be something other then bulbs. If one at a time, then probably bulbs. I am not sure if 06 400h has HIDs on high beams. My 08 350 has HID/low and halogen/high. Regardless, if it is just bulbs, replacing thm is very easy DYI.

Assume you are out of warranty?

Thanks for the responses. I am out of warranty, of course. I am not sure if they both went out together or not, either together or within days. I don't know if they are HID's, but I expect so since they are expensive and that could be the reason the dealer is as well. I'll check that and see if a friend can look at them for me to see if there are two types of lights present.

it's more likely HID bulb. Dealer is charging about 200-300 per bulb plus work. Check your fuse before doing anything else.

definitely the dealer is getting ridiculous, I would first check the switch, if okay will buy the bulbs with the following link as guide, if it works you can buy 100 years worth supply of bulbs

If it is your high beam bulb, it is a 9005 bulb and they are very cheap, about $10. You can replace yourself, instructions are in my 2007 RX 350 manual. Are you positive it is your high beams?

High mount stop lamp is LED.

Your brake light is LED on the tail.

However your Park Lights in your tail is regular bulb.

Learned the hard way. Had a stop lamp issue. Took the tail off thinking it was just a bulb replacement. There was a circuit board for the LED and couple of small bulbs for the park-tail light.

Dealer replaced the assemby on warranty.

The high beams are wired in series for the daytime running lights. That is what makes them dimmer during the day. Because of this, if one goes out they both go out....Just like christmas lights. When you flash or turn on the highbeams (not DRL) a relay switches the wiring so that they are independent instead of in series. So if you are basing the fact that they both burnt out at the same time by looking at the running lights, then it is normal. I always replace both bulbs at once...Otherwise they will be different colors and the second bulb always burns out soon after. The instructions are in the owners manual.

High beams are halogen bulbs, they could have made a mistake and giving you hid low beams estimates instead.

If you are a handy person...You can change the HID bulbs yourself. They are about 50 bucks for a pair of bulbs on ebay or amazon. They take D2S bulbs. It took me about 10 minutes to change the bulbs when I swapped out the 4300K HID for 6000K. I wanted to have a bit more of a BMW colored bulb.
