Shocker!! Good Experience at Dealership
I have seen some horror stories regarding experiences at dealerships so I thought I would give credit where credit is due.
I took my 2007 RX350 in this morning to have the front windows tinted the same as the rear windows and also told my advisor that I had some concerns about the clips that release the luggage rack rails as they would only come up about 60 degrees before requiring a lot of pressure ( I posted about this a couple of months ago) and I was concerned that any more force would break them.
He came in the waiting room a while later to inform me that they were also experiencing some problems with them, and said that they didn't want a fix that might not last, so they would replace both rails.
The window tinting looks good, and I definitely felt a difference as I drove home (on a sunny Florida day). The new rails work perfectly and I'm a happy camper. Score one for Clearwater Lexus

There is a TSB on the rails, as there was a bad batch that got out, and if an owner complains (most owners never touch the roof rails, and thus don't care) Lexus will replace them with ones that work.
PS: I don't think good and courteous service at a Lexus dealership is a "shocker," as Lexus generally ranks at the top of the owner satisfaction surveys. The isolated reports you mention are the exceptions. I have had a Lexus or two for well over 15 years and it is the professional sales and service staff that surely is a major factor in this customer's satisfaction.

I too have always had good experience at Lexus dealership. People complain about markups or higher price, but that is needed to provide the superior service [imho]. That seems to be the Lexus model of doing business. And then there are some auto companies that have a higher markup and they have poorer service.

The higher price for Lexus parts (and service) is not solely due to a higher markup. You are paying for the comfort and convenience items, of course, but much of the higher price is surely attributable to the superior construction of the items in the first place, which is one of the big reasons Lexus cars need fewer repairs and have fewer breakdown than most other vehicles.
As for the roof rails, my recollection is that the TSB is for the early months of the '04 cars, which were the first to have this design. When the flaw was discovered, the part was changed, and the TSB directed dealers to replace the old ones with the new ones for those '04 owners who wanted them. I bought my '04 in '07, and when I learned of the TSB (on this forum), I checked my car and found that mine did not work properly. I don't use them a lot, but I would like them to be easily adjustable as necessary. The next time I went in for service, I mentioned this, and new ones were installed, no questions asked (note: the car was still under the original warranty at that time).
