Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem. My drivers side door won't unlock with either the key remote or the electric switch on the door. All other doors lock and unlock properly with either the key remote on door switch but the drivers side has to be manually switch with your hand or by inserting the key in the door and turning the lock. Any help would be appreciated.

Search on door lock actuator. It seems your driver side actuator is not working.

Have you owned the car since new? If not, how long have you owned it and did it gradually fail or was it a one time occurrence? (meaning was it working fine and all-of-a-sudden no longer worked) I does sound like the normal, worn out lock actuator. If it is, there is a cheap fix, if you or someone you know is mechanically inclined. We need the answers to these questions 1st.

I have owned the car since 2004. I seem to remember having to replace the actuator on the passenger side for about $400 about 2 years ago so I would like to avoid that if possible. It happened rather suddenly; it stopped working then worked ok for about a half day then died all together. Now it only works with the key. I have read the forums about the cheap repair for the actuator however all of the instructions seem to be for the first generation RX's. I can't even tell how to get the door panel of on the '04 model from the directions I've seen. I'm willing to give it a shot myself with the piggyback fix but I don't won't to permanatly damage the door in the process. I can always take it to the mechanic and shell out the $400 if I can't do it myself. Any help appreciated. Thanks
