Question Brake Pad Question

While having the oil hose replaced on my wife's 08RX350, I had the dealer perform the 15K service. When I got home, I looked closer at the paper work and it was noted that front brakes had 8mm and rear was 9mm. Does anyone know how thick oem pads are when new? I would like to estimate the remaining life of the pads considering that I fully expect my wife to drive the next 15K miles the same as her 1st 15K miles.

Roughly 10mm. Depending on your driving habits (easy or hard on brakes) and geographical area (flat or hilly area) you should be able to get 40-45K miles before the fronts need replacing. Time to replace is 2-3mm. By the time you hear the wear indicators you are around 2+mm. I never wait that long. The rear brakes will last a lot longer... perhaps as much as double the life of those on the front.

I changed my front brakes out at 45K and have over 70K now on the rear at the moment.

Sounds like your wear is about in line with my numbers.
