Default front axle lock nut

Can someone tell me if there is trick to getting the lock nut off the axle on a 2004-RX without ruining it? FWD-front axle

Axle nuts are the same...you will need a breaker bar to unbolt it. No other way. Otherwise you can go to a tire shop and get it loosened up. They have high torque air wrenches.

But if it is a DIY, you need a long breaker bar. Be safe in doing it though.

I'm not talking about the nut itself....I'm talking about the "tin" lock nut cover that is over the nut.

Those you just pop out. Then you get the cotter pin, then the axle nut. Have not looked at an RX, but they should be pretty much the same.

You pop it it messes up, that's ok. Just put them back.

Spray some PB Blaster on it if it's frozen for a couple of days. Then use a big breaker bar.

take a cold chisel and hammer it to separate the seem between the cover and the hub,

dont worry you wont damage it.
