Default Just pulled the trigger on an 08 400h!

Hey guys, we are now an officially a Lexus family, we've had our first one a brand new 99 ES300, and as of 2 years ago my pre owned IS250, and now as of yesterday, a brand new 2008 RX400h.

I was wondering if we got a good deal on it:

Lexus RX400h

AWD
Nav (bluetooth, voice command, no ML)
HID
Prem package (leather, wood trim everything, butt warmers)
Roof Rack
18" wheels
Other minor accessories

MSRP 50.8k

We got it for 39k, 36.5k after trade in though they only gave us 2.5k on our 99 fully loaded ES with full service record.

The car is Matador red and the dealer is searching for it right now, my only worry is the dealer might swap something out in the car when they deliver to us, like giving us an FWD and not the AWD one, since they don't have one on the lot. When we asked the dealer why can't we pick one up from a local dealer we knew that had red in stock, this dealer said their invoice is 1k higher than the car we made a deal on (which contains all the spec we listed).

Should I worry?

Thanks

Overall that is a good deal. If it is 39K after taxes and fees then I would say it would be a stellar deal. I personally got the '09RX for 36K final with all other charges included and it is not even hybrid

Yeah my mom was horrid about the trade in on the ES, but KBB said it was worth 4k for trade in anyways, and since the deal on the RX was pretty good and the ES has served us well, we let it slide this time (though I admit I slid up again, shouldn't let the excitement of a new car pressured me).

And to answer Meadow's question, call up all your local dealers, all the dealers in your state, all the dealer's within near by states, there will be someone willing to work with you. There is a LARGE quantity of 08 RX hybrid still on the lots right now, within the 3 dealers we talked to (50 mile radius) there were almost 20 08 RX hybrids.

Thought you were supposed to keep the new car price and trade in talks seperate? It looks like you lost $1.5K...

You see the 450h yet? No interest?

We don't know how many miles or what condition the 99 ES was in....

The dealer haven't noticed us yet on the car so I hope they find the right one or else everything is going to get thrown out the window.

As for our ES, its a 99 fully loaded, Canadian spec (main problem here?), with 96k miles on the odo, 1 owner (us), with 3 rock chips on the hood, and minor paint splatter on the rear lower bumper from running over spilled road paint, other wise the exterior and interior can be pretty summed up as good condition with full service record.

So yeah, I guess we did get jipped a bit on the trade.... but as long as my parent's major requirements of

1. getting an 400h under 39k,
2. happy getting a loaded new car other than our alternative (a base ES),

are furfilled and they are happy, I'm happy too. Can't win at everything and I guess nothing sounds sweeter than saying I got 11k off MSRP on my brand new car

As for the 450h.... I like the new RX a lot, but a 40k + car is out of our price range inthis type of economy and that's why it feels great that we can get what was a 50k car for less than 40k.

hey I pick up my car from Prestige in Jersey last year. The dealer had every Vin number and every spec for every car that is available. If you sign a deal you should be able to get a Vin number before you hand over a deposit. You can also check carfax to see if the car is clean, don't laugh I bought a brand new Maxima in 02, to find out it was registered two months before, but never sold. This effects the warranty of the car, the warranty starts the first day of registration. Also, until you actually pick up the car and complete the bill of sale you can back out of the trade in, don't let them tell you otherwise. It should not affect them at all, unless they know they got you on the trade in to back out the sale price of the new car.
