Then, we would all get killed when we trade in our car. If gas went to $5 (which is very possible in a year), you can expect to probally recieve 5-10k less for your rx350 for a tradein.

THAT is the real reason why I, and many others, should consider selling their rx350 now. It is not the actual cost of gas to me, but the amount I would lose on my trade in if gas prices continue to go up.
not a bad idea, or thinking........good thing for me mine is leased and is going back soon.

Here in Calif. I hear people complaining about the price of gas but I still see those big SUV's driving 80 MPH on the highway. I think people that could afford the big suv's can still afford to buy the gas and are not going to change there driving style.

Just look at the used Lexus dealers, they have more and more SUVs in stock everyday. The trend have already started.

Default Let's face it...

If one drives sports cars like 911 or vette, or even sports sedan like G35, you will pay a lot more for gas than RX350 (driving sports car makes you feel euphoric and insane at the same time) and will lead one to punch the gas every chance you get.

If you compare to Asia or Europeor Canada, our gas is still pretty cheap (not that $4/gallon is acceptable). I agree with previous posting by jgr7; everybody knows that there are road-rage morons out there, driving 90+mph in highways. I often see little 'teenie boys and girls' driving Escaldaes, Expeditions, Hummers, etc.(bunch of attention-seekers), gunning at every stop lights. In my opinions, these morons are much more detrimental to our society than even alcoholics out there.

Bottom line; keep your RX until it dies (use it for outings and weekends), and get a beater like used focus or civic, as your daily commuter.

The Lexus IS350 and the GS350 gets almost 30 MPG on the highway.

I think it comes down to this. If you leased your car, you are safe as the dealer will abosb the loss.

If you bought your car and like to trade your car every 2-4 years, it is probally best to trade in now.

If you bought your car and plan on driving it into the ground (own it 10 years or so) you are safe.

Welcome to the rest of the world. US gas prices are cheap by rest of the world standards. Australian prices are far more expensive than US prices but no where near European prices.

If it takes high prices to force Americans to change their ways (ie start buying smaller more fuel efficient vehicles) than that is a good thing. We are facing the same challenge over here. If you want a large gas-guzzler, be prepared to pay for the fuel and don't complain.
