Question Lifetime oil changes = $129.99?

Took my GF's RX330 in for tire rotation/balance and oil change. My dealer (Lindsay Lexus - VA) is offering $129.99 for a lifetime of oil changes. Given that an oil change runs about $50+ for a Lexus, I went ahead and did it.

Are any other CL members encountering the same or similar at their dealerships?

Here's a possible scoop or motive....as long are you are lured inside the dealer's repair bay, the more they can "see" issues that will require attention. Such as this needs repair, that needs repair. You are covered during warranty, but left exposed when the warranty expires. The investment on the oil change will give them the opportunity to check you car, in which case is not a bad deal. Most of the drivers are sort or "convinced" to have something repaired while at the shop.

Yes, it is a good ploy. At check-out, I was told that the front brakes are soon due for replacement. The cost a whopping $375.00 (replace pads and resurface rotors). It is a very good marketing ploy, but I would rather face that than than say Jiffy Lube or some other place where they may forget to fill the oil or tighten the lugs on the tires. Not say that it wouldn't happen at a Lexus dealership. At least a Lexus dealership would have more liability insurance and possible training than say a All Tune and Lube.

Dude I say you milk it, take it in and whenever they tell you things need to be replaced take a mental note and get it done on your one time.

I see it as a win win situation... well except for the dealer

If you already exclusively go the dealer, at the specified interval, don't care which oil they use, and intend to keep the RX for the next 3 oil change services, then it is a good deal.

The chance push on extra services would have been there even if you did not have the contract.

Check if you still get the loaner even if you come in for oil change only?

My reason for not accepting the contract [first it is not offered here , and second is that I follow my own oil change schedule with my choice of oil]

Unless you are a hard core DIY'er or believe all dealers are in a conspiracy to cheat consumers, it's a good deal. I don't have time or inclination to do it myself and nobody gripes about paying reasonable price for legit work. No matter where you take it, Lexus or not, they will try to upsell add ons. You can always say no but should expect it will be done right at your dealer. I wonder why it's offered at some dealers and not others?

Great deal for sure, but any fine prints to say that intervals are 7500 miles on this deal (instead of "recommended" 3000 miles when you pay-per-trip) ? Hey, if you're thick skinned, take the deal because it's definitely a ploy to get you in to then have them 'check' and constantly tell you what needs 'maintaining.' You'll go in for your oil change at 15,000, but then they'll ask you if you want the 15K maintenance (which is crap, but costs about $500).

I would check to see what mile interval they will change the oil at. Also unfortunately for me, this would be a no deal since I used synthetic oil. Unless they do as well?

For this area (DC Metro), my SA said that I should bring it in every 5,000 miles. Not bad, but it rarely gets driven. It is a 2005 and has about 25,700 on it. As opposed to my 06 IS250, which has about 38,000 miles on it. She said that she would extend it to me as well, eventhough I may bring it in after March - last oil change 1,500 miles ago.

They are also offering lifetime batteries ($189) and lifetime tires (someone on this board talked about this at length sometime ago. Either does not interest me.

For both vehicles, they spring for a loaner if you can't wait on your oil change. The average time is about 45 minutes...

During this time, I eat their "customer" snacks, drink pleanty of diet-cola and watch the flatscreen in the lounge area.
