Is dealer maintenance required?
I did my own oil change on my first 5k or 6months but I keep getting these letters from the dealership stating their records show my rx 350 may due for a scheduled service.
Will I void any warranty if I don't take it in every schedule maintenance or should I just take it in every major maintenance like 18moths/15k miles and 36months/30k miles, etc....
I'm afraid if something happens to my car and it doesn't show on their records that I never been to their shop, that my warranty is void for the lexus extra care package....

What I do is I'd take my regular 5K oil change myself or take it to Jiffy lube for 20 bucks.. But for the 30K and 60K I'd take it to a dealership because I do not trust these bozos at Jiffy lube to do the major service. Your powertrain warranty can be void if you do not do the regular maintenance especially the 30K and 60K service where all of the fluids are changed.

No-
Just keep receipts for oil changes and NEVER NEVER NEVER get dealer scheduled maintenance, it is a rip. Read the maintenance items in your manual. There are things such as coolant, tranny oil and brake fluid changes that are necessary. Just ask that they be done when you have an oil change. Otherwise you will end up spending thousands, literally, for oil changes. Just read you maintenance manual and apply some common sense.

Not that I ever went to a J Lube, but I ran across this article... you really need to stay away from them!

I have had my little RX in Mexico for like...forever...no Lexus dealers, just Toyota, but despite missing supposedly a few checkups before the 50K warranty checked in, and not a problem with the warranty, in fact they even covered a battery that had been giving me issues down here. However, now I am on my own.

I can give them a copy of my "work done" memo from my binder....I keep tabs of everything I do with the RX. To the mileage! Anything and everything....wipers, gas treatment, tire pressure check, wax dates, etc...
For oil changes, I list the brand of oil and filter. I actually have an inventory list of components....

I've done all my own maintenance on every new car I've owned since 1977. I've never been asked to show receipts or records, though I do keep them. I think this only comes up in cases of obvious abuse or neglect. The dealers like to imply that your warranty might be in jeopardy by saying "if you get the service done here, you'll be sure not to have any questions about maintenance for the warranty." But the fact is you won't have any trouble anyway. The only way they can require you to have the service done by them is if they pay for it. If it's your expense, it's your choice.

Thanks for all your inputs... I really appreciate everybody's answer. My parents are very paranoid. They keep saying, if you take your car to them, they might do something to it. Like getting an oil change, they might mess with something else to get you back in their shop later on. I'm with them so I guess if it ain't broke, don't worry about taking to their shop.....

Print the file and document the date & mileage, receipts if possible

Also what I do is I take my RX330 to my local Toyota dealer and charged me 300 bucks for the 30K and 60K service, Lexus dealer wants 600 bucks for it. Jeez.. The car is basically a Highlander V6, all same parts.

I know an RX is not the same as the Highlander. But mechanically it is; from all of its fluids and filters. Theres actually a debate on this thing, really??? Wow..
