2001 Avalon
hey guys,
I wanted some information on what you guys think about the 2001 Avalon XLE.
I saw one for $9,999 with 82K on it. The carfax report is also clean.
That is the asking price....what do you think is a good price to pay for it.
any one here have a Avalon...and what do you guys think about it.
Sorry for putting it on here ...I tried different toyota forums but no good information that i can use.
Thanks in advance!

From the advice of us RX owners, the Avalon is probably the closest thing in the Toyota car lineup to our RXs, given the size. I have had a few friends with Avalons, including one diplomatic friend who brought one down here (not sold in Mexico, but could get serviced given that it used a similar 1MZFE engine in that year almost identical to the one found in the RX300 and identical to that of the Camry). Despite all the bumps and bruises it took in its 2 years down here, that car ended holding up really well compared to a few Camrys I knew.
My father is undergoing a debate as he is looking in the future at a Lexus or Toyota, and in the case of the Toyota he has narrowed it down to an Avalon or a Camry.

Those Avalons are great. Two of my friends have had them with the only issue being a really soft suspension. If you have rear passengers, go slowly over speed bumps. One friend just upgraded his '01 with a set of Konis and he is very happy with the results...enough to keep him in the car for awhile. If the condition is good I think the price is fair, but certainly go through some numbers for yourself. Good luck!

Check the ES forum or opena thread there as Es and Avalon are a close(r) match.

Can't help you with the price, but my parents have an '01 Avalon. It's a fantastic car, but COMPLETELY boring. Think of it as a reliable fwd Lincoln Towncar. Comfortable seats, quiet, good ergonomics, TONS of space, good controls. Make sure it has good maintenance records, because the 3.0L V6 is prone to sludge, so the oil MUST be changed every 3k, preferably with synthetic.
But if the Avalon is your speed, I highly recommend it. It's a great car.

The Avalon is horrible around corners, suspension way too soft and the steering is way too loose. If you dont care about those things, its a great car. I second that recommondation of using synthetic oil.
