Extended warranty is a good idea if you ever need to use it, thats why I tell all my friends.
You can buy extended warranty up to the last day of your factory warranty, no need to buy now, you have 4 years to think about it. Also, you can buy Lexus factory warranty on the internet for about half of the price the dealer chanrge.

Whar are some of the reputable online ext-warranty sites for Lexus? (links, please)
What are the "gotchas" (other than the aforementioned financiing issue)?

Thats if u plan to buy right way. However, if you wait 4yrs, u r going to have to come up with money later and not only that it will certainly be more expensive b/c your car is now 4 years old with 40K+ miles

I spoke with my service advisor a few weeks ago about buying an extended warranty at the end of the original warranty. He gave me a brochure about it. He said it can be financed.

The dealer gets a spiff for selling the warranty at the time of vehicle sale, and most of them will pass it along. For that reason, most dealers charge a few hundred dollars more later on.
We wound up going with the 7yr/100k/$0 deductible, which the dealer claims to have sold to us at his cost--$1900. I have no idea if that's the case or not, but considering condensation in one HID headlight is BOUND to cost $1700 at least once before it hits 100k, seemed like a good deal to me.

They are trying to rip you off. MSRP for 7yr/100k platinum (highest of the three levels) is $2,325 with a $50 deductible, or $2,375 with a $0 deductible. Gold MSRPs are $1,925/$1,975, respectively.

All the info is on this page. Click the "Warranty Comparison" link to see the differences in coverage. The three plans vary in what components are covered. The base only covers driveline components like engine, transmission, axles, etc. Gold covers a lot more and Platinum covers almost everything.
