Default Oil Change - What the dealer do and how much does it cost

Hi Lexus owers,

I have a RX350 and I wonder how much does it cost for oil change at dealer?
and what procedure does the dealer do when you take your car to the service for oil change beside changing oil and wash your car ?

Thanks in advance.

pretty much thats it unless they rotate ur tires fill ur washer fluid and if anythingis low they should replenish it such as brake fluid or coolant but thats the thing they usually overlook

If all you have done is an oil change, my local dealer charges $30. If you take it in for a periodic service, they follow a list of items shown in your manual. Charges vary by the amount of work to be done and the individual dealer's charge per hour. For instance, my 15000 mile service cost $374 and involved balancing and rotating the tires and a list of inspections. The service required 4+ hours. I thought it was a little expensive, but worth it for Lexus reliability.

For a lease, all that is required of me is to change the oil right? Nothing extra needed I believe. I know if you don't rotate the tires they may charge you an excess wear and tear on the tires. Is that it?

For a lease, you need to do whatever the maintenance guide says - no less, and certainly no more, even though the dealer will try to upsell you on the service intervals.

At a Lexus dealer in my area, the "7500 mile service" is $99. That's an oil change, filter, top off the washer fluid, tire rotation, inspect (as in "look at", not "change") lots of things, and a car wash.

I think that just an oil and filter change is $40 at the same dealer.

I believe in do-it-yourself on minor maintenance like an oil change. A local tire place will rotate the tires for $10; that saves me the hassle of trying to jack up two tires at once in my driveway. Add oil, an OEM filter, and some washer fluid, and I'm well under $99 total!

I just paid $83 for the 10,000 mile service at my dealer, an oil change and tire rotation. This strikes me as pretty steep. Oil changes and inspections at local service stations are about $25 to $30. Any place where I buy tires will rotate them free for life. My wife owns a Chrysler minivan and gets $10 oil changes and tire rotation for life. At the price of a Lexus, I would think the routine services would be free for at least the length of the warranty.

My first oil change at 5000 miles was free from Lexus of Wayzata as I believe most Lexus dealers do. The 10K, 20K, 25K and such usually are oil changes, tire rotations and check various fluids and fittings. The 15K, 30K and 45K and all 15K intervals usually require some other adjustments. I had my 10K and 20K done by the local Toyota dealer which ran about $45 for the oil change and tire rotation ($24.95 for oil change, $20.00 for tire rotation and the other dollar for sales tax). The 15K I had done by Lexus of Wayzata again and I believe that was in the area of $100. Took about 1 1/2 hrs total from time we dropped off the RX till it was sitting ready for us to drive out (washed). You have to remember that Lexus dealers will tend to be on the higher scale for shop rate, usually around $100. an hour, whereas other dealers, garages will be lower on their hourly rate. As for a $10. for an oil change, I've never seen that anywhere around the eastern part of ND. What does that get you for oil? Acme oil and Acme filter? Even going to parts place will run around $5. to $7 dollars for a good filter and around $1. per quart for oil. Around here most GM, Ford and other OEM dealers going around $17.95 for specials and usually around $20. to $24. regular price. Even the quick changes are around that. The local Express Lube is $27.95 for regular oil and $49.95 for all synthenic. They will vacuum out your interior, clean the windows inside and out, top off fluids and check air pressure and of course change the oil and filter for that. Last week I got a flyer from my Ford dealer for a special on my Sportrac to change oil/filter, rotate tires, top off fluids and make adjustments for $37.95 but only if you went with Motorcraft filter and oil. Any other brand of oil was $5. more.

2005 RX330 Thundercloud, Thundercloud Mist, Gray/Black interior with Black Birdseye Maple, NAV, ML, HID with AFS, Rain sensing wipers, Headlight washers, Tow Package with OEM Hitch, 18" Thundercloud rims with Michelin MXV4's.
1998 GS300 Previous & first Lexus (wish I still had it).

That is what happens when they charge $100/hour

Check your Toyota dealer. They run specials and are generally cheaper than a Lexus dealer. When I had my ES300, I went to Toyota for 30 min oil changes, and Lexus for non engine issues.

Do you know if the Dealers put in Synthetic oil or just standard oil? Since it's 5000 miles interval, I would expect it must be Synthetic.

My dealer uses Dino and the interval for my driving is 7500 mi. 5k if you tow a trailer or drive in harsh conditions. Oil comes out looking very clean and hard to tell it is not new.

Wow thats cheap

The dealers in RI and MA tend to charge about 125-145 for an oil change, tire rotation, and sometimes they'll run it through an auto car wash too. The same thing at local toyota dealers is under $30

This may be a determining factor when i'll be shopping again for a new vehicle. I think our local market needs more dealers/competition.
