does going to a Toyota dealer for oil changes and/or service void your Lexus (4 year) warranty?

Toyota can perform routine maintenance on your Lexus but will refuse to perform warranty work. That must be done by a Lexus dealership. They are usually about 30-40 % less expensive compared to the Lexus dealerships for routine maintenance work.

Cool, thanks. I'm planning on asking them to do my 15000 service. Last time I called them, they gave me a hard time about bringing my car to them and not Lexus. I was a little annoyed with that.

You can bring a Chevy to Toyota if you wanted to.. they shouldn't have given you a hard time, you might even be able to make a complaint to corporate about that!

Next time I will call corporate. One more question... when I take my RX350 to Toyota, do I bring a checklist or something or do I just tell them I want Lexus' 15,000 mile service? Or should I just ask for an oil change? I just want to make sure I document the proper service so I don't void my warranty.

I rotated and balanced my tires at Discount Tires for free. so you don't have to pay for dealer!!!!( check your car's tire warranty first).

Wow! - old thread.

The recent change in the oil recommendation for the RX-350 to 0W-20 will significantly increase the cost of the oil change.

Past: Conventional (mineral oil based) 5W-30 = inexpensive
Now: Synthetic 0W-20 = expensive

Please post your 0W-20 oil change experience here.

It could be the same people. I know my local Lexus dealer is the same company for Lexus and Toyota. I'm sure they'd throw a fit. After the RX300 with $220 oil changes (seriously those "Check this, check that are a load of crap, they probably don't even do them) and $800 brake job that wasn't really needed (tell a woman she needs brakes... she won't say no) I go to the dealer to get the car and then to turn it in again when the lease is up.

I don't buy into rotating the tires. When they wear out they wear out (heck my other car the manual recommends not to rotate) As long as there is *SOME* life left in the tires I don't think you will be charged. Are they refund you for the less-than-excess "wear" on the rear tires if you don't rotate? If they did that to me I'd make sure to jack up the car and make sure the car had the exact number of miles that my lease was for next time around.... Well on one lease I did just buy 3 tires... put the spare + 3 new tires and put a worn tire as the spare... no charge.

Either way the tires Lexus uses are so bad you are going to have to replace them at least once. The OEM size on my RX330 was really expensive, so I got slightly larger tires as a replacement, didn't get charged.

You need to change the oil, oil filter and air intake filter is the main thing. Transmission fluid I am not sure what the schedule is, most cars are going to "lifetime" fluid (not a good idea.. but it's a lease, it won't be your problem at 100k miles when it fails) same thing for coolant flush. Brake fluid you absolutely must change every 1-2 years, I doubt you want to have brake issues. Brake pads, if they wear out (there should be a light on the dash that alerts you DO NOT change before the light turns on)

IMO if you don't drive too much (say 10-15k miles/year) on a 3 year lease I'd do the coolant flush and brake fluid half-way through your lease.

All RX350? I just went to advance auto and got some oil. The guy looked it up in the computer and for 2007 RX350 it says 5w30.

Just the new 2010 RX-350. But, it looks like all the new Toyota/Lexus models are requiring 0W-20.

Since I can only attach (1) file at a time, I will post the 2010 Toyota Camry oil spec in a separate post.
