I brought my car in for warranty work (air suspension failure, sticky roof rack rails, underdash clip recall, ticking sound in passenger footwell, etc).

When I went outside to show the service rep the rack, he saw that the paint under the rear roof rack foot was mottled. We looked at both sides and the paint was peeling off on the other side.

I think that the feet are made of aluminum because it was not pitting badly. Sorry I don't have pics as they were discovered just today and will likely be gone when I get it back.

I never noticed this even though I thoroughly maintain the car. They are going to replace the racks under warranty (35k, 36 mos. old).

I wash the car at least twice a week. I don't live or go near the ocean even though I live in Hawaii. I wax it as needed but at least every 3 months.

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up to check your racks for corrosion on the feet.

Do you use chamoise (sp?) to absorb all standing water droplets after the wash?

For high humid environment
I suggest to use a blower; the kind used for lawn care; to repel standing water droplets, before using the chamoise. Just direct the nozzle to all of those hard to reach points.
