Question Rear bumper fixing math

Hi Forum members,

I recently got scratched my 2006 RX330 rear bumber and want to get some ideas how much it will cost me at a dealer shop or other repair shops? Looks like does not need replacement but surely needs some scratch repair and repainting with matching color.

Default Rear bumper

A couple of months ago I was wacked in the rear. My damage consisted of two small nicks in the bumper. I had it fixed at the Lexus dealer at a cost of $1100 plus change. The other cars insurance paid. They claim that the bumper can't be fixed but has to be replaced.

It is i nice that you got a new bumper. I would have gone that route myself given the option. However, they are dead wrong when they say you can't repair a plastic bumper cover. It has been done many times before. Either way, you got the better deal with the new bumper.

The paint is usually the biggest expense. My uncle could do it down here easily and he has cleaned up my rear bumper with some filler and black DuPont paint. Now he would probably charge like about $100 USD or so, since the paint is like $40 USD down here.

Correct. It's called plastic welding.

I got rear-ended in an RX a couple of times. Both times, it was around $700 to replace the rear bumper cover, have it painted, and replace the bumper pad (the black strip on top with the Lexus logo) that glues on top of the bumper cover.

Thanks for info, guys.
Probably should scrub a bit first then if it is quite noticeable, it is dealershop time.

I will have to show pictures of how my uncle does it on my RX300 in the not-to-distant future, pretty interesting stuff and he does it on a lot of luxury vehicles.
