Question Xenon Headlights question??

I have a 2004 RX330 and when I am on the highway the xenons see as if they do not light up the road as much as i like in front of me....by this i mean that i think they do not project out as far. BTW I do not have AFS.

If i wanted to see in further in front of me i would have to turn on the high beams (the HIDs).

I was wondering how far out does your xenon's point on the highway. or do you guys feel the same way that they do not point out far enough?

Your HIDs are the low beam lights. Note the sharp cutoff at the top of the light projected down the road - this is to achieve maximum throw without blinding oncoming drivers. Contrary to popular myth, the HIDs are not "brighter" than any other lamps (that's limited by law), they just provide a more even distribution of light, and a considerably wider illuminated area than the incandescent lamps - even without AFS.

When you turn on the low beams you should see them cycle up and down through their range of motion. This indicates that the "levelling" feature is operating. Properly adjusted, the left lamp will cutoff just slightly below the right, allowing the low beams to illuminate the edge of the road a bit farther down the road. You might have the aim of the lights checked by your dealer, if you don't feel they have the "reach" you desire. Sadly, in the US our lighting laws have not kept pace with lamp technology - it's not a product problem, but federal law.

Are HIDs worth the premium price? If you are interested simply in illuminating the road, probably not. Under current regulations, and at this point in their development they are largely a styling affectation.

Maybe try turning on fog lights? It wouldn't make a big difference in distance lighting, but it'll help somewhat.

I experienced the same thing. I had the dealer adjust the lights as much as was legally possible to project further. They are much better since it was done.
